Rusty Moore

BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — Russell Lynn "Rusty" Moore, age 62, 1840 Washington Avenue, went home to be with the Lord at 9:22 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo. Rusty was born Oct. 25, 1947, in Baxter Springs, Kan., to John Byron and Geraldine "Jerry" (Moyer) Moore. He had lived in the Baxter Springs area most of his life. He graduated from Baxter Springs High School in 1965. He held several jobs in the area over the years, including Hormel Meat Company, Miami, Okla. He was currently working as an assistant funeral director with Derfelt Funeral Homes, Galena and Baxter Springs, a position he had held for the past 14 years. He was a member of Bethel Community Church, Baxter Springs, where he was formerly a board member and sound technician. He actively attended the Baxter area Men's Prayer Breakfast. Rusty performed several comedy routines. He developed the characters of Edsel Dudd and Elvira Goodbody while at the Kountry Kuzins Theater in Grove, Okla. He was also known as Cal Pyle with the Goodtime Jubilee performers. His family affectionately referred to him as a duct tape specialist. He was married to Janie Heatherly on March 17, 1967, in Cardin, Okla. She survives. He is also survived by one son, Sean V. Moore (wife, Tonya), Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter, Heather Lynn Derfelt (husband, Matt), Carl Junction, Mo.; five grandchildren, Holly Moore, Devon Moore, Aaron Moore, Maegen Derfelt and Mylas Derfelt; two brothers, John B. Moore, Ardmore, Okla., and Tom L. Moore, rural Baxter Springs; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Bethel Community Church, Baxter Springs. Pastor Mark Kerr and Pastor Audie Tash will officiate. Burial will be in Baxter Springs Cemetery. Pastor Matt Derfelt will speak at the committal service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the Rusty Moore Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
