RUTH AUSTIN

Ruth was much loved and will be sorely missed. May your family draw strength from God during this difficult time. (1 Peter 5:10)

Words cannot express the sorrow we feel over the passing of your loved one and our dear friend and volunteer, Ms. Ruth Austin. Ms. Austin meant so much to many people. Ms. Austin was one of the founding members of the 49/63 Blue Hills Community Youth Council, a community developed and based program, with liaison assistance from the Family Court. Ms. Austin diligently worked with the youth and families giving them hope for a brighter future and safer community for all. Her smile, consistency, and compassionate spirit was contagious. Many of the court youth looked forward to her monthly visits at Hilltop and McCune, as well as the staff. Ms. Austin would send the youth greeting cards for all occasions to let them know that she was thinking of them and that they are special.
On behalf of the youth and staff of the Jackson County Family Court, we extend our sincere sympathy and we thank you for allowing us to share in the life of one so very gracious, loving, and caring.

Sorry for the loss of your loved one in death. May the God of peace and comfort,comfort you in this very difficult time.

I feel honored to say that Ruth was my friend. Having worked with her daily at the 49-63 CAN Center, I can honestly say that Ruth was the tallest woman that I have ever met. Not in stature but in commitment and devotion to her community. Ruth's dedication to the improvement of this central part of the city was unwavering. I cherish our long talks and even those long walks that we shared. Ruth will always be fondly remembered.

My husband and I met Ruth when we all volunteered for American Red Cross. She was a remarkable person who will be greatly missed. Words cannot do her justice.

I worked with Ruth when I was assigned to Metro Patrol Division as a sergeant in her neighborhood. I later worked with her and Missouri Probation/Parole on Project Re-Entry. She was a great lady that cared about her community and the people in it.

I met Ruth through her work with the 49-63 Neighborhood and her community activism. She was a wonderful community advocate, organizer and friend. She cared deeply about her community and was a pleasure to know and work with. She was one of KCPD's biggest advocates and we loved her for that. She was our friend and co-worker. She has truly left the world a better place for having been here. She will be missed. I am so sorry for your loss.

I was privileged to know Ruth through the 49-63 Neighborhood Coalition. She was instrumental in clearing the street I live on of drug houses and nuisance houses. I will always remember her courage and professionalism. She was one of my role models. I have lost a friend.
