Ruth Blumes Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 20 to Dec. 22, 2004.
BLUMES _ Ruth Ruth passed peacefully Saturday, December 18, 2004, following a long and meaningful life as a mother, wife and friend. She said often "to have a friend, you must be one" and she lived that credo gathering and keeping so many friends that no hall could hold them. Sparkling eyes and a mischievous wit, she loved and was loved by so many. Born in Nicolive, Russia November 5, 1910, Ruth's childhood was spent in Winnipeg and following short stays with her doctor husband in rural Alberta, lived in Calgary from 1943. Her husband passed in 1976; they had travelled the world together and she was to rebound to travel widely thereafter. Her last years were spent at the Renoir and then the Beverly nursing home where she endeared herself to fellow "inmates" and staff (who were always to receive a warm smile and thanks, for even the smallest task). All were to be in awe - when things were good, Ruth had the biggest smile, and when circumstances tested her or the ones she loved, she was the first to find the positive and to author hope and goodwill. Ruth is survived by her son, Morley (Moe - wife Carol) of Kelowna, B.C.; grandchildren, Sharon Numerow, Lauren Bell - husband James, Terry Blumes - wife Gina, Jeremy Blumes, Chad Blumes, all of Calgary, Michael Blumes and Mira Blumes of Vancouver, B.C. and Stephen Granovsky - wife Allison of Toronto, Ontario; and by four great-grandchildren, Kevin and Allison Numerow, Carter Blumes and Ben Granovsky. Sadly, she was to endure the untimely passing of both a daughter (Barbara Granovsky) and a son (Mark Blumes). The Funeral was held on Monday, December 20, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chevra Kadisha and a memorial gathering at the home of Lauren and James Bell will follow.

Sharon-

So sorry to hear about your grandmother. She was a wonderful woman and really brightened my days at the Renoir.

Hopefully, in time, thoughts of her will bring a smile to you lips instead of a tear to your eye.

I feel blessed to have known her!

My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
