Ruth CARMICHAEL Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Jul. 1, 2010.

CARMICHAEL, RuthNovember 23, 1922 - June 17, 2010Ruth passed away suddenly but peacefully in her home the evening of June 17, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband Roy in 1998, her daughter-in-law Janice Carmichael in 2000 and her daughter Alison Alexander in 2001. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her three sons Roderick (Donna), Robert, Ian and son-in-law Mark Alexander. Also her eight grandchildren Clinton, Lani, Dillon, Hayley, Nicholas, Brittany, Nicholas and Keeley. And, her three dear sisters Peggy Hunt, Anne Bridger and Doreen (Kornel) Szarmes as well as numerous nephews, nieces and their children. Ruth was born November 23, 1922 in St. Lambert, Quebec and was the third of five children to Robert and Elizabeth Crowe. Moving to Kerrisdale, BC in 1928, Ruth completed high school and graduated nurses training at Vancouver General Hospital in 1945. She married Roy Carmichael in 1947 and in 1949 they moved to Powell River to start her husband's dental practice and a family. Ruth simply loved Powell River and was very involved with local golf, and was especially proud of raking rocks off new fairways at the new Myrtle Point Golf Course. Aside from being connected in all aspects of her four children's sporting and educational pursuits she truly treasured being a member of Powell River United Church singing with Powell River United Church chorus and Powell River Chorus. Bridge with her friends was very valued by her throughout her years and her later involvement with Far Off Broadway and Theatre Now groups tremendously nurtured her love of drama and comedy. A service was held on Friday, June 25 at Powell River United Church. In lieu of flowers donations to Powell River Stroke Foundation or the United Church Memorial Fund would be gratefully appreciated.
