CHRISTIANSEN, Ruth Olga 1915 - 2009 On the morning on December 15, 2009, Ruth Olga Christiansen of Mayerthorpe, AB passed away peacefully with family at her side, just weeks before her 95th birthday. Ruth will be dearly missed by her four daughters, Mildred Poworoznik of Edmonton, Doreen Gibson of Stony Plain, Janice (Wayne) Bousquet of St. Albert and Cheryl (Ron) Lloyd of Mayerthorpe; sister, Anna (Richard) Davies; brother, Ejnar Mattson, both of Mayerthorpe and sister-in-law, Margaret Mattson of Barrhead; nine grandchildren, Charlene Poworoznik, Lori (Nick) De Mare, Leslie (Nick) Bevan, Bradley (Georgina) Gibson, Dwayne (June) Gibson, Harvey (Gina) Gibson, Kendell Bousquet, Kelley (Wade) VanKleek and Jeff (Chantel) Lloyd; sixteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Karl in 1978; parents, Olaf and Olga Mattson; infant brother, John; sister, Eva Price; brother, Roy Mattson; brother-in-law, Ron Price; sister-in-law, Olga Mattson and son-in-law, George Antonovich. Mom was a pioneer, being born on the homestead in the log cabin her father built. She graduated high school and attended "normal school" to become a teacher. Mom was an exceptional cook and avid card player. She volunteered extensively in her community and church. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful mom and grandmother and will be greatly missed. Following cremation, a celebration of Ruth's life will be held on Friday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mayerthorpe Legion with Reverend Ruth Lotholz officiating. Interment of remains will take place at a later date.
