Ruth Cooper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 9, 2013.
Ruth Marian Cooper, age 90, a long-time resident of Mitchell County Texas died January 6, 2013 at Medical City Dallas Hospital from complications following heart surgery. She was born January 10, 1922 in Colorado City, Texas. She graduated from Colorado High School and attended Texas Woman's University in Denton. She married Billy Spalding Cooper in 1943 and resided at Cooper's Cove on Lake Colorado City until 2012 when she moved to Waxahachie, Texas. While living in Colorado City, she worked as a secretary at the Texas Electric power plant on Lake Colorado City where she retired after 18 years of service. Previously she had worked at the Chamber of Commerce in Colorado City and at Shell Oil as well as helping her father, Lewis B. Elliott, in the Mitchell County Abstract business. She enjoyed reading , studying the bible, studying languages (especially Hebrew), doing jigsaw puzzles, playing Phase 10 dice and enjoying email, Facebook, Free Cell and Mahjong, but the love and joy of her life was her family and her personal relationship with God. She was very active in all the activities at the assisted living facility where she lived and signed up for every field trip offered. Through grace and love, she touched the lives of everyone who met her.
She was preceded in death by parents Lewis and Elizabeth Elliott; sisters Juanice Elliott, Shirley Wilkinson, Esther Brewer; and her husband of 56 years, Bill Cooper. She is survived by her sister Frances Godwin; sons Chris Cooper, Danny Cooper and Randy Cooper; daughter Carol Johnson; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and a large, very close extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Friday, January 11 from 5 to 7 pm at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Colorado City. Services will be Saturday, January 12 at 2 pm at First United Methodist Church Colorado City. Burial will follow in Colorado City Cemetery.

I was so sorry when Ruth passed away. I had emailed with her several times prior to her surgery, and she seemed to be doing so well after the procedure. It was a shock to lose her at that point in her recovery. I will always remember my lovely Aunt Ruth and miss her smile. She was full of love for others and had a wonderful outlook on the world.

I was extremely sorry that I was unable to attend the funeral. I dialed in and listened to it via a cell phone, and it was a beautiful service full of stories showing her love for her family and friends and her Christian soul.

We'll all miss you very much, Aunt Ruth. You'll always be loved.

I am saddened to hear about Ruth's passing. She was the epitome of what I would call a true "lady." My condolences go out to her family and friends during this most difficult time.

Ruth was a true friend, a wonderful person, and a Christian sister in the Lord. She and my mother grew up together, and she showed me around Colorado City after my mother passed. Ruth is with Jesus now. The fruits of the Spirit shown forth in her life have followed her into eternity. I look forward to seeing her again in heaven someday.

I will dearly miss my beloved Aunt Ruth. She will always be remembered as one of my favorites. She had a very soothing and kind voice. I never heard her say an unkind word to anyone.

Ruth Elliott Cooper was one of the most easy going, talented, and creative people we have ever known. Early on she was an artist and avid painter. She will be sorely missed by all, especially her sister, Frances Elliott Godwin. God bless Ruth Elliott Cooper and her family.

Such a sweet graceful lady!! Danny and I have great memories of fun at lake and reunions. Family our prayers are with each of you and asking for the Lord's comfort at this time. Danny says she is rejoicing with Jesus and Juanice was waiting at the gate to see her!

Grandmommy was one of the most special people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I will miss hearing her stories and the time we would spend putting puzzles together when we would visit. She had a way of saying my name in a way like nobody else. She was loved by everyone that met her and she will be missed more than words can say. Rest in peace Grandmommy.
