Ruth Davidson Obituary
Born on March 8, 1937, in Mountain Top, she was a daughter of the late Rev. James and Mary Emma Goodman Younger.
She received her bachelor's degree from Wilkes College in English and her master's degree from Glassboro College, now known as Rowan University, in the teaching of the arts in English.
Ruth was an instructor of writing composition at Penn State Schuylkill Campus for 22 years, retiring in 2001.
She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Pottsville, where she was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir.
Ruth was a very active member of the Pottsville community and belonged to the following organizations: Yorkville PTA; Little League Mothers Boosters; Shadetree Commission; Henry Clay Statue Commission, and past president of Torray, which was at that time the Women's Rotary Club.
Her greatest joys were studying the Bible and conducting various Bible studies and also painting, especially flowers.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, John Younger.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Dr. William R. Davidson, to whom she was married 56 years; daughters, Mary Ella Hallick, wife of Brian, and Deborah Ruth Orlowsky, wife of William, all of Pottsville; son, James Kelly Davidson, husband of Linda, Allentown; grandchildren, Bradley Davidson Hallick, Meghan Ruth Hallick, Alyssa Brianna Davidson and Aaron James Davidson; sister, Dorcas Koenigsberger, widow of Dr. M. Richard Koenigsberger, Demarest, N.J.; brother, Dr. Paul Younger, husband of Cathy Hird Younger, Ontario, Canada; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at United Presbyterian Church, 214 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, with the Rev. Sue Marie Vaskette officiating. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service in the church. Interment will take place Tuesday in Neath Cemetery, Neath. The procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. The public is welcome. The family requests that contributions in Ruth's memory be sent to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Schuylkill County, 711 Deep Creek Road, Hegins, PA 17938, and United Presbyterian Church of Pottsville, 214 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901.
