Ruth Elkins Obituary
Greensboro - Mrs. Ruth Herring Elkins, 80, a resident of Greensboro and former resident of Asheville and Williamsburg, VA passed away Tuesday August 18, 2015. Ruth was born March 7, 1935 in Rose Hill, NC, the daughter of Barney Lee and Viola Evelyn Chadwick Herring.
Ruth was married to William Marvin Elkins who preceded her in death on March 6, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Nora and Dorothy Herring and her brothers, Paul, Clayton, Larry and Morris Herring.
She is survived by her daughters, Tracy E. Smith and husband Keith of Greensboro, Cindy E. Stevens of Williamsburg, VA; her son, Michael Scott Elkins of Greensboro and four grandchildren, Sean Smith, Zachary Drum, Ken Stevens and Aubrie Anna Stevens.
Private family services will be held.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Ruth's memory to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405 or to the Adult Center for Enrichment, 2701 Henry St., Greensboro, NC 27405

We just heard the sad news of Ruthie's passing. This is a sad time for you all and there are really no words I can say that will make this better for you. Hold together and cherish the many wonderful memories you have of your mother. We all have such great memories of when your mom was expecting each of you, and our fun times together as children. Sorry to learn of Ruthie's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you. We have been traveling last week and had occasion to take a ferry. It occurred to me that the last time I was on a ferry Ruthie and Marvin met me at the other side. I have a lot of good memories over many years.
