Joann Bailey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 4, 2003.
(02/04/2003) JoAnn Bailey cleared the last hurdle peacefully and entered the awesome Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ February 1, 2003, at the age of 59. ``MaMa'' is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Johnny Bailey; her two daughters, Gail Mengelkamp and Traci Rountree; and son, Stacey Bailey. She is also survived by her mother, Viola Hefner; her sister, Teresa Eastland; brother, Jack Eastland; and was loved dearly by eight grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews as well as numerous other relatives, family and friends. No stranger to giving and receiving affection or speaking the words, ``I love you,'' she administered tough love when needed as well. Graduating from high school in 1961, with ``Most Likely to Succeed'' and ``Most Friendly'' honors, she gave the state 25 years of excellent service before retiring as DHS' (Department of Human Services) top administrative secretary for the Regional Director, in addition to being a full-time mother and spouse. JoAnn was quite fond of dancing and listening to music during her leisure time, and enjoyed cooking fine cuisine. Visitation is from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, as family and friends will gather to celebrate the wonderful life of JoAnn Bailey at Cook-Walden Rockwood Lane Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Rockwood Lane Chapel, with Reverend Thomas Bailey officiating. Graveside services will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Doctors Susan Babb, Carroll Cagle and John Griffin, as well as the ICU and CCU units, at Conroe Regional Medical Center in Conroe, Texas. A special thanks goes to the friends and family who were so supportive during JoAnn's illness.
