Ryan MacFarland Obituary
Ryan attended Maclay School, and graduated from Leon High School with high honors. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society. Ryan discovered his love for photography at 16, and was recognized with many photography awards while in high school.
Ryan moved to New York City to attend New York University on scholarship, graduating with a degree in Photography and Art History.
Since a child, Ryan enjoyed travel and the outdoors. On high school breaks, Ryan loved snowboarding in Colorado. His junior year in college, Ryan studied abroad on Paros Island, Greece with several of his classmates. Ryan traveled around Europe during this time and also became an expert at making margaritas with Paros limes.
Ryan started his career in New York City as a self-employed photographer and set designer. His talent was recognized by many, earning work opportunities with Sir Elton John, Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, Serena Williams, Vera Wang, and Maria Sharapova, among other artists and athletes. His commercial clients included The New York Times, Vogue, Microsoft, W Magazine and others.
During his career, Ryan had many solo photography shows nationwide and group shows worldwide. His work has been published globally and he is represented by galleries in New York City.
During Covid, Ryan developed his love for nature into a career in floral design. As a self-employed set and floral designer, he assisted in creating magnificent weddings around the country. He also created gorgeous floral installations for boutiques and commercial clients in New York City and the Catskills.
A Celebration of Life for Ryan will be held on June 10 in New York City. In lieu of flowers, Ryan would love to have donations made to the Leon County Humane Society. Ryan loved animals, especially his rescue beagle Franklin.

Jim and Karen, it’s with sad hearts that Donna and I heard about Ryan’s pasting. We can’t help but think back to 1985 when Ryan and Laurie were born a week apart, the joy and learning we shared in those first few years as they grew.
We don’t have the words to express the sadness of your lost, but we can remember Ryan’s red hair and the great fun of watching he and Laurie in the pool.
Our thoughts are with you and we won’t forget the memories.

Karen, I'm so sorry to hear of Ryan's passing. He was just a little boy when you worked for Consumer Services, and I remember him visiting the office with you. You and your family are in my thoughts.
