To all who have taken the time to sign Ryan's guest book,
Thank you for remembering Ryan and for honoring him over the years. In some ways it feels like I heard Ryan's voice yesterday and in other ways it feels like we lost him so long ago. God continues to carry me and heal my heart. Most of all, He continues to put wonderful people in my life each day. Thank you all and God Bless you.

To the Maseth Family,
My name is Jose Reyes, and during my time at Fort Polk, I had the privilege of serving with Ryan. He was one of the 1st soldiers I had put into my command in my very 1st leadership position. I always felt lucky to have him on my team. He was what a first time leader hopes for in a soldier. He made my job a lot more easier. He knew what he was doing, didn’t have to be told what to do, and was always able to help me in making decisions while on missions. He was a big part in many of my accomplishments out in the field. Ryan was more than just an asset tactically, but during missions when we were doing absolutely nothing, I couldn't of asked for any better company to have around than him. He made my time at Fort Polk alot more bearable.
Mr. and Mrs. Maseth, the loss of your son was not only a great tragedy to the many close ones he left behind, but also a great loss to the world. I am deeply sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences.

I took care of Ryan's mom and dad's dental treatment when the twins were little and I remember Ryan and Brandon as just little kids..They played on the dock in Kittanning while we ate chicken one day! It seemed like just yesterday when these twins were little! ..Who would have known that they'd have grown up to help defend our country!?
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, Doug and Cheryl and my prayers and thoughts are with you, your family and of course 'little Ryan.'

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Ryan, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Chery, Doug, MaryAnn, Paul & family,
I just heard of Ryan’s death yesterday, and I have shed many tears for all of you-- in your great loss. Though I did not have the pleasure on knowing Ryan, I sure feel like I know him now, after reading all of the wonderful things written here in this guest book. He was an incredible person and I know how proud you must be. Find strength in his memories, for he will live forever in your heart. You carry him with you in everything you do and his spirit will be with you always. Death is the hardest part of life, to understand. I know that all too well. I’m sending a hug to all of you, and will keep you in my prayers. May God bless you all at this difficult time.

Sometimes I find myself thinking about you coming back to Savannah again this spring. I was at Walden last night remembering Bar Maseth and Jager Bombs for breakfast. You were always my favorite person to drink with. I have a lot of great memories of you and life isnt quite the same knowing we can't make anymore. I always enjoyed talking to you all night after everyone else fell asleep cause they werent as tough as us. You always listened to me when I needed a friend to talk to. You were like a big brother to me you gave me your advice on anything and ALWAYS made me laugh. Thank you for being a part of my life. You have affected it more than you will ever know. I have been waiting a while to write an entry in the guestbook because I wanted to take time and think about what I was going to say about Ryan. I grew up with Ryan, from elementary school all the way through high school graduation. My 1st memory of Ryan was when we were in 2nd grade and had to write a poem to send into a contest. Well, I won an honorable mention award, and Ryan won 1st prize in the contest. (So Brandon, even though you felt weird reading a poem about Ryan at the service, ironically, it had special meeting for me.) I should have known then Ryan would always strive to be the best. My next memory of Ryan was in 4th grade, when he and Brandon switched places in class, on April fools day, to see how long it would take the teacher to notice. Moving on to middle school, I road the bus everyday with Brandon and Ryan, got on and off at the same stop, and hung out around Joe’s Card’s and Candy for a little while most days. Brandon and Ryan where also part of a neighborhood club we had. The details of the club are pretty embarrassing and we were young. Brandon, this club was weird, but a wonderful memory. It was amazing to watch Brandon and Ryan wrestle at this age, because it was as if two identical forces were competing against each other. Next, high school, where I had 11th grade English with Ryan, he loved to irritate our teacher, but it was all in good fun. Ryan’s desk did get moved to the front of the classroom though, it didn’t keep him quiet, if anything, it gave Ryan more material to work with. After graduation, I didn’t talk to Ryan, but I was still able to keep tabs. Once, I ran into Ryan’s Mom at the hair salon, where she was able to tell me about what Brandon and Ryan had been up to since graduation. Which was a lot, I was so impressed to hear about what Brandon and Ryan were doing with their lives in the Army. Another time, I ran into Brandon and his younger brother at a local bar when he was home from Iraq. Again, I got to hear about the Army “stuff” they were part of. Well, it’s hard to believe, the same freckled faced boys I used to ride my bike with in Reserve Twp. accomplished so many remarkable achievements in their lives. Ryan, I have read most of the entries in your guestbook, and I am so deeply touch to read about the man you became. How you gave yourself so voluntarily to those who needed your help. I cannot believe how many lives you have touched. I am so proud of you! The accomplishments you have made during your short time on earth will stay with me always. I knew you and your brother would be great, but I never dreamed you would become one of America’s Best. It has always been a pleasure knowing you, but now, it has become a Great Honor to say I grew up with Staff Sgt. Ryan D. Maseth, and he was one of America’s Best. Your memory will always live on in my life because I will brag to anyone who will listen about you. Thank You so much, I will never forget you!

Hey Ry
I felt like writing to you today because I miss you more than ever. It's been freezing down here in FL, but I'm sure that's something you already knew. How's heaven treating you? Your brother Brandon called me the other day, and he sounds just like you on the phone and even laughs just like you on the phone. I was in tears by the time we hung up, but it was nice to hear from him. I also called your Mom the other day, and enjoyed talking to her about you. I'm looking foward to meeting your Mom and Brandon hopefully this summer. You are missed so much by so many people... I will continue to write often just to let you know how much I care and that you'll never be forgotten. I am also going to post a pic of Ryen for you. Stay out of trouble up there in heaven, keep smiling down on us... and don't forget to save us a good seat up there for when it's our time to come and join you!
I will forever miss you PeeWee!
Love Always,

Dear Maseth Family,
My name is SFC Chris M. Garrison. I am currently serving with the same unit as Ryan did. My heart goes out to you. I knew Ryan pretty well. He never had a bad day. No matter what kind of mood I was in, I could converse with him for only a moment and all my troubles seemed small. I will never forget him, his spirit stays with us. I know that there are no words to console you, but Ryan is smiling down on us as we speak. Oh by the way, I saw the earlier entry (about the snow). That very morning I got up to do PT and I saw the snow. The first thought on my mind was, Ryan pulled another one on us.

Staff Sgt Maseth,
I never had the opportunity to meet you, but did meet 2 of your cousins not to long ago. They spoke very highly of you and your brothers, and about how much they admired your accomplishments and dedication to duty. Having served in the Marine Corps for 4 years, I have a pretty good picture of the type of soldier and man you were. Thank you so very much for your service to this country and for inspiring those around you with your actions. People like you make me feel honored to have been able to serve in this great Nation's military. God bless you and your family. Semper Fidelis.

Cherie, Doug, and Family,
My heartfelt prayers are with you in this time of sorrow.
I've never felt so inadequate as a human being, yet privileged & honored to be present at Ryan's Memorial Service. Ryan and his life is an amazing testimony of what it means to be Christ-like, what many of us strive for, but never reach;
Galations 5:1 "So, I say, live by the Spirit". Galations 5:16 "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control".
Ryan, you lived by the Spirit. Your work will forever be in the souls of the many lives you touched, and that love will multiply 10-fold.
Cherie and Doug, I commend you as parents for loving & shaping a beautiful child of God. May God's love & comfort sustain you today, tomorrow, and always.
With all my love,
Tina Stone

I want to let you know how sorry I am for your loss. You will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I also lost my brother who was in Special Forces, and he was killed on November 3, 2005. For me, keeping Jeff's memory alive is what gets me through everyday. If you ever need anything even just to talk, please let me know.
I will visit your son from time to time. The cemetery reminds me of Arlington, which is where my brother is now.
Please know Ryan is truely home now, with the angels.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Maseth,
Dear Cheryl and Doug,
I saw the obituary in the Post-
Gazette and was so moved that I decided to attend the Church portion of your Son's funeral.
I am glad that I did!! I learned more about the bravery, honor, and devotion to duty that these men commit to and the wonderful person your son is (He's in Heaven!) that I overcame
the fact that I don't know who you
are or who your family is.
I think that it is high, high
time that families of enlisted men
put pressure on our media to truly
give these men and women the credit
they deserve for their service.
Therefore, if you know of a way that I can support our current
active troops, please e-mail me!
Your son was a blessing, it
seems, to everyone he came into
contact with!
I also know of friend/ acquaintance of mine, Mr.Bob
Foster, who lost his son. His son was a Captain and there was no large memorial or tribute, only a prayer during an evening service on a Wednesday night. (maybe I missed something) But that church did not do a whole lot to honor it's fallen.
NO FUNERAL is a good thing, but
the one in honor of your son was
truly special for our sake. GOD
is taking care of your son,
we need to show support for our
troops who are risking their lives.
GOD BLESS YOU RICHLY
&
I am sorry for your loss,
Sincerely,
Shawn Michael Gordon
For no Glory will truly be revealed
until the day of HIS second coming.

Cheryl and Doug,I want to tell you what great son's you have. I will always remember the energy they brought to my entire family's lives.I would not have a clue about wrestling tournaments if it was not for Doug and the boys explaining the brackets to me. I am also glad Brandon and Ryan were always kind and never crushed my kid like they could have. We will keep you all forever in our hopes and prayers.

To the Maseth family. I did not have the distinct honor to have met your son but I empathize with the pain and sorrow of your loss. We lost our son Patrick in Afghanistan last November. Pat served with the 10th Group Special Forces. I truly wish I had words to ease your heartache. Our sons were American Special Forces Soldiers. They were Heroes. They lived by a Creed that states they will never surrender. I found strength in those words. I carry Patrick in my heart and in my mind and find comfort knowing he is with me everyday. Some days will be better than others. I struggle to remain positive and move forward with my life. To give in to defeat would be a disservice to his memory. We wish you well and thank you for your son.

Cheryl,
I am so very sorry to hear about Ryan. I work for Verizon on Stanwix Street and have spoken to you on occasion. It's hard to understand why such a dedicated, loving man would lose his life at such an early age. Reading through the tributes to Ryan moved me to tears. May the prayers of family, friends, and even those you have never met bring you comfort and may God bless you and your family. I am so proud to be an American and it is because of men like your sons that we enjoy the freedom we have.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing your son Ryan, but I have known his Aunt Kate for quite a long time. I want to offer my condolences to all of the family at this most difficult time. From the entries I've read here, there is no doubt you raised a wonderful son. Words can not soothe the pain, but I hope the prayers offered will give you the strength necessary to begin healing your hearts and bring you peace.
