S. Stinor Gimbel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 20 to Jan. 29, 2023.
Stinor Gimbel passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2023. He was 91. Stinor grew up and lived his adult life on the same block on the Upper East Side. He was the son of the late Louis and Elinor Gimbel, a graduate of Iowa State University and a veteran of the US Air Force. He had a successful 30-plus year career at Hopsteiner, the international hops grower and merchant of which he was a part-owner. Stinor was a longtime member of the Monmouth and Essex Fox Hounds, the Southampton Bathing Corporation and the Meadow Club of Southampton. He was always impeccably dressed by Saville Row, an Anglophile who attended the Trooping of the Colour for many years, and a fan of tennis and college football. Stinor is survived by his nephews Louis, Adam and James Gimbel, his nieces Martha Morse, Elizabeth Kitzinger and Victoria Gimbel and many grand nieces and grand nephews as well as his ex-wife Gail Shepard. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Tom and Nick. As his health declined, he was expertly cared for at home by a caring team. His family will always be grateful to them.

I worked at SS Steiner in the 1980s. Stinor was friendly and supportive in a company that he was part owner. He was always gracious and I am happy to see he lived a long life.

Rest in peace Mr Gimbel.
Sweet kind caring man, always made sure to ask for my mothers health even if he was not 100% percent himself.
Heaven received an other angel...

Dear Mr. Gimbel's family,

I am so sorry, I was not informed about such bad news. I met Mr. Gimbel many years ago in New York. He was so kind and gentile... I will never forget his good conversation and his sense of humor. Definitively he was a very good person. Rest in peace,

Beatriz
