OWENS SADIE
93, of Pittsburgh, died on Sunday, February 17, 2013. Born October 20, 1919 in Pittsburgh, Sadie was the youngest child of Joseph and Lottie (Radd) Owens. Preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Loving mother of Annette (Louis) Cancelmi and David (Judy) Panzera; grandmother of David (Maryam) Panzera II, Lori (Eric) Shear, Autumn Panzera, Annemarie (Paul Sparks) Cancelmi, Louis (Elisabeth) Cancelmi and Michael Cancelmi; great-grandmother of Caitlin, Lauren, Ryan, Emmett and Giulio; numerous beloved nieces and nephews also survive her. Sadie was a long-time parishioner of and loyal employee of St. Bernard's Church in Mt. Lebanon where she served the staff as a cook. Prior to that she worked at the original Kaufmann's Department Store as a waitress in both the Vendome and TicToc Restaurants. During World War II, Sadie proudly served her country as a welder helping to construct LST (landing ship tank) vessels for the war effort while employed by the Dravo Corporation on Neville Island. Family was, above all, of primary importance to Sadie. During the last year of her long and fruitful life, Sadie's "family" expanded to include the companionship of her fellow residents at Marian Hall Home in Bellevue where she received the loving care of the staff and of the School Sisters of St. Francis.
