I was among the younger of his nieces so do not share many personal moments with him but I have this vivid memory in August 1980, Amir and I had just gotten married and we came to London on our way to USA.We were invited over to his place and he presented me with 2 cookbook. I felt rather special!Of course I have heard some amazing stories of him thru Zakir and Siddiqa who were closer in age to him and when he was studying in the J.J School of Arts often came over and stayed with his sister Zarin, my mom.May his soul rest in peace!

Salim (Cooky to many of us) was an amazingly entertaining and much adored uncle. I was lucky to have known him since my early childhood in Calcutta and later in Bombay. I have some of my fondest funiest memories when we were listening to him tell stories.

As a child I was rather in awe of this wonderful uncle. He introduced me to lots of great music, but I never knew him very well. As an adult, he influenced me in so many ways. He encouraged me to leave home and be adventurous, and led me to the beginnings of my spritual journey.

Known fondly as Cooki Mamu, was exceptionally talented and successful. Unfortunately, did not have much contact since over last 30 years, but memories of him as he progressed in Bombay during our childhood are clear as ever. pray his soul rests in peace. Abdul Karim Lilani

Exciting, funny, mischievous, provocative, refreshing, unbound by convention and full of joie de vivre without saccharine. So glad to have known him. Let him with the saints repose now that he's turned up his toes.
