Sally Baker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 7 to Oct. 9, 2022.
Sally Eileen Baker
April 6, 1936 - Sept. 30, 2022
Sally Baker died peacefully in her sleep with family by her side, Friday, Sept. 30, 2022. Sally was born in Portland April 6, 1936, to Wilma Marie McCauley and Lawrence Stanley Gamelgard.
She grew up in S.E. Portland in the Mt. Tabor neighborhood with her younger brother, Phillip Allen Gamelgard. Sally attended Vestal Elementary School, graduated from Washington High School and attended Oregon State College, where she became a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
Sally married Neil Ward Baker April 6, 1957. They settled in Portland and had two children: Marc Jeffrey Baker and Cynthia Suzanne Baker. An avid golfer, Sally worked at Progress golf course and racked up quite a few tournament trophies over the years before becoming a Real Estate Agent in the Portland area. Sally was always one to stay busy and spent her time volunteering at St. Vincent's Hospital and as teacher's aide in the Beaverton School district before retiring to spend time with her three grandkids.
Sally settled in the Tigard golfing community of Summerfield. Sally was never happier than running errands around town, stopping at McDonalds for her daily diet coke and shopping for trinkets or things for her home. She had a passion for gardening and her yard was the envy of those in the neighborhoods in which she lived. A true Oregonian she loved spending time on the Oregon Coast. But more than anything Sally loved her family. She enjoyed hosting holiday get togethers and made the best sweet potato casserole hands down. She rarely missed a chance to cheer on her grandsons in their sporting events and clearly was one of their biggest fans.
Sally never met a person she couldn't talk to. She was outgoing, fun and had an opinion about everything. There was never a lull in the conversation when Sally was around. She was a beloved friend to so many.
Sally is survived by her son, Marc (Sherri); her daughter, Cindy (Steve); her grandsons, Josh Brown (Mariah), Dylan Baker and Brennan Baker. We miss Sally but find comfort in knowing she is in a peaceful place, reunited with her adored kitty Rollie aka "Baby."
The family will hold a private burial service with a celebration of life in the spring of 2023.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Providence Cancer Institute at Providence St. Vincent Medical Foundation.

I never missed an episode! When 3:30 pm came around, every weekday, we were in the living room, watching the line up, starting with you. I was always fascinated with the toy box and how you would drop wood and other things in there, before you turned the crank. I still talk about you. We learned all that was good in being a decent human being from you along with several other shows, trailing yours. Sesame Street came on after you and then Mr Rogers, Electric Company, finishing off with Zoom. After watching 3 hours straight of kindness, humor, respect, and more, it's no wonder we turned out awesome!! Thank you sweet Sally Baker for making a huge difference in this great big World! I love and miss you, still!!!

I loved Hobo Kelly as a child. I remember being late for the schoolbus just to watch her on our TV to listen if she would mention my name when she said "hello to all you children out there" and would act like she could see us out in TV land. That was in the late 1960s. Wonderful! With Love to her memory, Cheri Usher of Palm Springs,CA

Fan forever!
