Mrs. Durrant first inspired me to study Political Science and ignited my desire to pursue a law degree. She helped me to see my potential. She will live on in my memories. RIP.

Mrs. Durrant was the most dedicated and talented teacher. Even now that I am a teacher, when I hand Philosophy students their Plato's Republic to read, I think of her. As a teacher of Political Science as well, I always draw from her teaching and love of the subject. Her sincere passion for teaching, her sincere love of learning, and her even more sincere love of her students made all the difference. Mrs. Durrant was the teacher that shaped my future. She was amazing! I am so sorry for your loss Mr. Durrant. She has made such a difference to so many people that her legacy will not fade.

Our family was twice blessed to have Sally teach both our son and daughter. She and Bob went beyond teaching to gifting our daughter with a visit while she was a freshman at college in Connecticut. We still talk about the dividends that all of their efforts have paid to both of our children and will be forever grateful.

Mrs. Durrant was by far the greatest teacher I had in all my years. Her sincere caring for the outcomes of her students was not only crystal clear but she often went well beyond the call with respect to our education and personal guidance. I still remember the events that she and Mr. Durrant would graciously hold at their own home for the class. I'm honored that I had a chance to be under her tutelage and her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all of the students lucky enough to know her.

To the family of Mrs. Durrant,
As I look back at my years at HHS, a few teachers stand out as being the ones who accepted me during my awkward times, and Mrs. Durrant was one of them. She always asked me about my day, about my family, and about my feelings, which, as a parent now, I see as the most valuable virtue a teacher can have... caring for students when they need it the most.
We will pray for her, and for the family members and friends she leaves behind.

Mrs. Durrant was an amazing woman and a fantastic teacher who constantly challenged all of her students to be better. She was, as she once said of James Madison, "small of stature, mighty of mind," and she will be greatly missed.

Dear Bob. Although I never met Sally, I believe I felt her spirit while with you in Scotland. I am truly touched to have been part of her gift to you. That was a special trip. I wish you peace, and my thoughts are with you. Paul Albanese

I always felt slightly cheated that Mrs. Durrant's illness prevented her from being able to teach my Political Science class for about half the year at Hampton High School during the 1985-86 school year. Just last night, before I knew of her passing, I was recalling the trips to her home, where we were schooled in how to conduct intellectual conversation and treated like intellectual peers, when I had 20 of my college students in our home. I'm a Political Science professor at a small college in St. Paul, and was blessed to have had Sally Durrant's example. I mourn her passing, and extend my condolences to her loved ones. Her legacy is far, and wide, and deep.

When I think about Mrs. Durrant - I think about passion. Always willing to go above and beyond - she set the standard for all of her students. She made us want to learn, want to be our best.
I'll always remember the day she arranged for me and another student to "shadow" her husband for a day at work to see what it would be like to work in a law firm. Thank you Bob, for supporting her passion, and being so kind to a couple kids trying to figure out what they want to do in their life.
My deepest condolences - and deepest appreciation and gratitude for a life well spent.

Bob - We were sad to read of Sally's passing, but happy that we could speak for a few minutes yesterday. What a special and exceptional lady! While words cannot always completely ease the pain of the loss that you have experienced, we do hope that the kind expressions of the many friends and students that you have received will be a comfort to you over the next weeks and months, and we will continue to pray that you will have peace in knowing that hers was a life well and fully lived, with fervor and purpose. We hope to see you soon and will remember Sally every time we pull out the Scrabble board, or head to a WTP event here in Kansas.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Durrant. She truly was one of the greatest teachers I ever had who challenged me to always be more and better than I was. I will never forget the countless hours of practice and review that we had with her, as well as her always thoughtful classes and lessons.

I am truly thankful that Mrs. Durrant chose to share her amazing gifts with us at Hampton. I will always remember her and be thankful for the amazing influence she has and will continue to have on my life.

My deepest sympathies to her family, especially her husband (thanks for allowing us to invade your house many, many times).

Dear Bob,
Words cannot take away the sorrow that you must feel. But hopefully the cherished memories of Sally will give you strength in the days ahead.
As time passes by , gradually we move toward the day when the comfort of our memories is greater than the sorrow of our loss.
Please accept our heartfelt sympathies.

As you grow older you distinctly remember the people who helped shape you for this thing we call life and there is no doubt that Sally Durrant was one of the people that shaped my life and many others.

Mrs. Durrant was the teacher who challenged to you think. She was also the teacher that taught you that before you expressed your answer or opinion in her class or any other forum, you better be ready to defend it with fact and fortitude. Not fiction or flippancy.

She also taught her students to write on a higher level as well as express themselves with whatever gifts they possessed. If there was going to be an event at school, she was there. Regardless of whether it was a sporting event, a musical, a band concert or whatever, she was there to support her students. Truth be told, she had a better attendance record than a number of parents or for that matter students. Mrs. Durrant was always there.

She was also the teacher that got a lot of us ready for college and the professional world and as one of those fortunate people that had her as an educator, I know my life is all the better for having her in it.

She will be missed. My sympathies to her husband and family and to all of her colleagues and students.

Dear Bob:

We just got your voice-mail regarding the passing of Sally. I can't believe it has been 36 years since we all met -she was such a special friend to me in Pittsburgh and that relationship continued even though we, unfortunately, did not get to see each other that often. As the years have passed, I appreciate how lucky I was to have found her at that time in my life. We all had so many wonderful times together. I cannot truly express my sadness in her passing. Jack and I extend our deepest sympathies to you, Bob.

Love, Jack and Claudia Wade

Mrs. Durrant was truly one of the greatest teachers I ever had. Her ability to challenge her students and teach them to become "thinkers" is something I will never forget. I know she had a profound impact on me as a student as she did with countless others. Thank you Mrs. Durrant.

Mrs. Durrant was a wonderful woman. She inspired so many of her students to achieve their best, brooking no excuses for lack of effort, and I am grateful for her encouragement. Mrs. Durrant's example and inspiration led me to pursue degrees in Political Science and Law. In all those years of education, I never had a finer teacher than Sally Durrant. My deepest sympathies go to her husband and family.

Sally (Mrs. Durrant) was a great mentor and friend. Had the pleasure of having her as a teacher, and the unique experience of teaching for her as she bravely battled her health issues. Then as I returned to Hampton as a full time teacher, we had some great talks as we shared a classroom. She was a truly wonderful person who wanted nothing more than for students to reach their potential.

Ms. Durrant was one of my favorite teachers. I had her for Poli Sci my senior year at Hampton. I will always remember her and her dedication to her students and our debate tournament at Dickinson College in 1988. :)
