Sally Menke Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 29, 2023.
Sally Grcevich Menke passed away May 25th, 2023 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born April 17th, 1956 to Dolly and Rudolph Grcevich in East Chicago, Indiana. Sally went to high school at Bishop Noll and graduated in 1974 and moved to Colorado in 1984.

Sally is survived by her son Michael and his partner Doris, and their children Jade, Paul, Savannah, and her sunshine, Madison. Son Mark and partner Emilie, and son Matt. Her sister Susie Denny and her children, Gregg and wife Mari, Kris and wife Julie, and their children Seth and Amelia. Terry, Scott and wife Katie, and Michael Denny and wife Alyssa. Her sister Sandy, husband Bill, and their children, Zack and wife Sherry, and child Robbie, her daughter Lauren and husband Kevin and their children Eleanor, Vivian, and Billy Jr. Son BG and wife Nikki. FInally, her godchildren: Analise Evans and JJ and Issac Jeramillo.

One of life's greatest gifts is a friend; Sally's mother died when she was young, and she prayed for a mother and was given two of the most beautiful women, Jeanette Holsapple and Agnes Menke. To Sally's many friends she would like to acknowledge Pam and Lynn, Nancy Corey, cousin Sandy Krupa, Kimmy, Joel Brandush, Lori Hladek, Kathy Falgier, Janet, Bea and Grace, Barb and Dave, Chris and Carl, and Kathy Collins. Finally, Eggo, her beloved dog.

Sally was a passionate gardener. She earned her certification of Master Gardener and was always available for advice about plants and trees. Every spring, her living room was filled with newly planted seeds or repotted plants. Along with plants, she enjoyed the birds who visited. She always said, "If you are going to feed the birds, then all are welcome at the table."

Sally will be remembered for her love of cooking; she loved sharing her cultural dishes of Sadma and pierogies. Holidays were her favorite time for cooking; her holiday parties were memorable, and everyone went home with a plate of her famous cookies.

The Menke home was a hub for the neighborhood. It was a safe space for family, friends, and neighborhood kids alike. She provided many lunches for hungry teenagers. Sally was characterized by her thoughtfulness towards others.

A memorial service will be held on June 2, 2023 at 10am at Springs Funeral Services Platte location. In lieu of flowers, Sally has requested donations to the Humane Society or Pikes Peak Hospice.

Sally was my best friend in high school. Everyday we ate lunch together, talked by phone, and passed notes between classes. We were inseparable on weekends. Even though our lives took us in different directions, we kept in touch. When we would talk to or see each other it always seemed as though no time at all had passed. Sally was extremely friendly and generous and had a great sense of humor. I will miss her warmth and laughter the most.

My lifelong friend. Not many people can say they have been friends all of their lives, but I can. Sally and I were born 10 days apart. We lived across the street from each other growing up. We played together as babies crawling on the floor, we played outside together riding bikes and playing hide and go seek. We went to kindergarten and grade school together. Although we went to different high schools, we never lost touch with each other. Sally introduced me to some of her friends from high school-Janet, Jeannie, Lori and Tracy just to name a few-all lovely people! Sally was one of the most caring, thoughtful, loving people I ever met. She was always there for everyone that needed a helping hand. I will miss my lifelong friend forever and a day. Love you girl, till we meet again.

Julie and I wanted to send our condolences to Sally's sons, Mike, Mark and Matt and sister's Sue and Sandy. Sally was a firecracker when she was young and I was lucky enough to get to spend some quality time with her in my formative years. This world is a little colder now that you have moved on to the next phase of existence. Sally you will be missed.

My life will never be the same. My sister Sally and I talked every day. On the phone we would try to solve the world's problems, talk about our kids, who bought what at the grocery store and dollar tree and how we were feeling today. I have been listening to her voice messages every day since she passed. We always ended our messages and conversations with "I love you" What I wouldn't give to hear those words from her one more time.........

I´m going to miss Sally. She was always very welcoming and loving towards us Brandush/Denny boys. The last time Sally visited she stayed one night with Katie and I. We ended up staying up past midnight just talking about life and flowers and any subject that came up. It was a good night. Rest in peace Sally.

Sally was one of the most thoughtful people I know. She frequently reached out to her friends and family with little notes, birthday greetings, or gifts to show her love for those she cared about.

She will be missed, and I will forever dedicate "Runaway Train" to her whenever I play it, as that was her favorite song request.
