Sam Conte Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 26, 2024.
Sam A. Conte passed away on the evening of June 13th, 2024, quite possibly just as the curtain was falling on one of his favorite theatre productions.

Sam fully lived life on his own terms. He was our dear friend, our confidante, and our trusted advisor. His sense of style was extraordinary, unique and one-of-a-kind (as were his 59 pairs of custom-made velvet evening shoes and one pair of missing Zanotti's.) Sam was an exceptional floral and interior designer with a memorable and dramatic flair and a loyal clientele. He was a dedicated patron of the theatre since childhood and likely could have been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records if he'd kept track of the number of performances attended over the past sixty + years. Sam particularly enjoyed spending time with children and viewing the world through their eyes. His sense of humor was equal parts acerbic and witty and we will greatly miss his captivating (albeit perhaps slightly lengthy and embellished) storytelling abilities.

Sam and the love of his life, Greg, spent the better part of the last thirty years exploring the world whenever possible. Sam took great pride in researching and creating every little detail of each trip down to the curation and setting the tone of the duo's outfits, ensuring they would complement the days outings and evening performances.

We like to think of Sam now as happily sitting in one of the Queens royal boxes at one of his many favorite London theatres, decked out to the nines in his full performance regalia including, of course, his signature embellishments.

Sam was one of my customers for many years. He was larger than life, sharing how much he loved the experience of theater and his expression in fashion! I must have framed a hundred of his playbills and each time he would tell me how wonderful the play was and I just had to go see myself! London was his place! To Sam there was no place like London theater. We will miss you Sam! Cathy from Palm Gallery & Custom Framing.

In Loving Memory of Sam

Sam was a cherished friend, a passionate traveler, adventurer, designer, who left us on June 13 leaving behind a legacy to us and inspiring as the world he explored and adorned.

Remembering Sam the minute he walked in the Flowershop. Instant connection that turned more than friend. He became family. Beyond his creative endeavors, Sam found solace and joy in the world of theater. Telling us many plays that he has seen. Also coupled with tales of travels that were absolute wonderful including his most beloved city of London.

Those fortunate enough to know Sam remember his unwavering kindness, and giving spirit. He leaves behind a tapestry of memories that will continue to inspire us and will take many lifetimes to fill his beautiful embroidered evening slippers(especially his missing Zanotti´s)
He will be missed dearly.

Dancing with Sam at the Everglades club. The song was so lengthy we both had to sit down before it was finished.

We first met Sam when he came to our shop in London to order his first pair of bespoke velvet slippers. Now all these years later and after all the 59 pairs, he had became a firm friend along with Greg.

Sam sadly passed away the day I was in the Prince Edward Theatre in London watching the Michael Jackson Musical. Sam had given us his tickets because he couldn´t make it himself, this was a frequent occurrence during the past year as he gradually grew weaker. His generosity was sincere and his friendship meant a lot to us both.
His charm and flamboyance seem to fill the room and he will be greatly missed by his friends in London.
