Mr. Sam Moore was the surviving half of the Grammy-winning, Hall of Fame-honored soul and R&B duo Sam & Dave, best known for their enduring hit, "Soul Man." May the love and many, many special memories you shared with your devoted loved one show how much your life was touched by him. May the God of comfort bless your grieving hearts with strength, loving kindness and peace as the world copes with the loss of Mr. Sam Moore. May his music and legacy keep his memory alive forever.

Being from Miami and as a Teen Musician I have so many memories of Sam and Dave . First of all Condolences to Sam Family and To his many Fans and Friends in Miami . We have lost one of our Great Voices!!!
Again I performed or backed up , the Fabulous Duo many times at 3 different Clubs in Miami including. The King Of Hearts, Mr James Club and The Knight Beat . Sam´s Voice !!! To me Sam´s Voice especially when he was Home performing for Miami Fans was like the rebirth of Sam Cooke all over again. Here a picture of JT and Dave out The Continental Club in Liberty City . That Club was originally The King of Hearts . Sam had just left when picture was posted taken

The Family and Friends of Sam Moore,
Once again, the world has lost the voice of one of the most gifted and talented singers of all times. During the 60's and thereafter I grew up listening to the tunes of the dynamic duo of "Sam and Dave". While is it disheartening to know that Sam or Dave, is no longer with us, it is wonderful to know we can still listen to their music at any given time thanks to modern technology.
As you remember your dear loved one, "Sorrow" is too small a word for what you're going through. There's not a word deep enough or wide enough. Even in times when there are no words, I hope you find comfort in knowing so many people are thinking of you and holding you close in their hearts.

Great voice, great songs, great music. He was part of an amazing duo that performed and entertained for so many years. Their place in the Hall of Fame was well deserved. Sincere condolences to the Moore family, May God be with all of you in your time of loss.

EVEN THOSE WHO DON'T TYPICALLY LISTEN TO SOUL AND R&B MUSIC KNOW AT LEAST A FEW SONGS BY SAM & DAVE, THE HALL FO FAME DUO WHO BECAME MUSIC LEGENDS THANKS TO THE POWERFUL VOICE OF MOORE AND HIS MUSICAL PARTNER, DAVE PRATER (1937-1988). SONGS LIKE "SOUL MAN," "HOLD ON, I'M COMIN," AND "I THANK YOU" ARE ENDURING CLASSICX THAT ARE STILL LOVED DECADES AFTER THEIR RELEASE.
MIAMI-BORN MOORE GREW UP LISTENING TO AND SINGING GOSPEL MUSIC. IT WASN'T LONG BEFORE HE WAS PERFORMING THROUGHOUT HIS REGION. HE PRATER MET WHILE WORKING THE GOSPEL CIRCUIT, WHERE THEY OFTEN APPEARED ON THE SAME STAGES, AND THEY FINALLY PAIRED UP IN 1960 AT THE KING OF HEARTS CLUB IN MIAMI. THE CHEMISTIRY WAS INSTANT. RECORD LABELS TOOK NOTICE, AND BY 1962, THEY HAD SINGLES COMING OUT ON INDEPEDENT LABELS.
THEY WEREN'T AN IMMEDIATE SUCCESS. FOR SEVERSL YEARS, THEIR INITIAL RELEASES FAILED TO CHART, BUT THAT ALL CHANGED WHEN SAM & DAVE GOT SIGNED TO ATLANTIC AND BEGAN CREATING MUSIC WITH SONGCRAFTERS AT STAX RECORDS, THEN-UNKNOWN WEITERS AND PRODUCERS ISAAC HAYES (1942-2008) AND DAVID PORTER. STARTING IN 1965 WITH "YOU DON'T KNOW," SEVEN OF THEIR NEXT EIGHT SINGLES WOULD END UP BEING TOP 10 HITS ON THE R&B CHARTS, INCLUDING TWO NO. 1 SONGS, "HOLD ON, I'M COMIN," AND THE ICONIC "SOUL MAN." "WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY BABY" JUST MISSED TOP SPOT, LANDING AT NO. 2.
THE PAIR PERFORMED TOGETHER THROUGH THE NEXT DECADE AND HALF, ENJOYING SUCCESS THROUGHOUT THE LATE '60S AND 1970S BEFORE FINALLY PARTING WAYS IN 1981. MOORE ACTUALLY BEGAN HIS SOLO CAREER IN 1970, WHICH BREIFLY CAUSED THE DUO TO BREAK UP-THEY REUNITED IN 1971-AND THAT SOLO CAREER CONTINUED AFTER THEY SPLIT FOR GOOD. IN ADDITION TO TOURING AS A SOLO ACT, MOORE WORKED WITH ARTISTS TO TOURING AS A SOLO ACT, MOORE WORKED WITH ARTIST SUCH BRUCE SPRINGTEEN, DON HENLEY AND LOU REED (1942-2013), AND HE TOURED WITH BOOKER T. & THE MGS.
1992, MOORE AND HIS WORK SAM & DAVE WERE HONORED WITH INDUCTION INTO THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME. "SOUL MAN" WAS PUT INTO THE GRAMMY HALL OF FAME IN 1999. MOORE IS ALSO IN THE VOCAL GROUP HALL OF FAME, AMONG OTHER HONORS.

ON JANUARY 19, 2017, MOORE SANG A RENDITION OF "AMERICAN THE BEAUTIFUL" AT INCOMING PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP'S INAUGRAL CONCERT IN WASHINGTON.
HE WILL BE MISSED, YET NEVER BE FORGOTEN.
MAY YOU BE SURROUNED BY FAMILY, IN THE DAYS TO COME WITH LAGHTER, ENDURING SORROW, STORIES, MAY CHERISH THE MEMORIES THAT YOU HAVE. HE IS LOOKING DOWN ON YOU.
