I use to take a Grey Hound bus to Toronto early on a Saturday morning to go to SAMs on Younge Street. There he would be holding court glasses pushed up on his forehead asking us what we were listening to and wanted to buy. It is the Holy Grail of record buying experiences to say I personally was handed albums by Sam to buy. Thanks Sam

RIP Sam and you touched so many of us by introducing us to the Toronto music culture & I recall the excitement of buying my first 45 racing to the store downtown with my first allowance. Years later when I worked full time I spent most of my pay cheque on vinyls every week! My sincere condolences to the family & you must be so proud of Mr. Sniderman's contribution and the legacy that he has left with many in this city and country.

Hello. I may be too late. There was no mention of Montreal anywhere. I used to go to 'Sam the Record Man' in a basement store to find the music I was looking for. Maybe it was 'The Continental Music Store' and 'Sam' was in the basement. I think that is something to be remembered. I know it is somehow very long ago, but he was an icon (the term wasn't used then) and you knew that you would find the 'exact find' at Sam's. Thank you Sir. Sad to see you go. You were an 'icon' of my generation. You knew your stuff sir! I am still vinyl and 45's! To the family, please accept my condolences. Your father was a trendsetter with conviction! It was interesting, exciting and fun to work for Sam the Record Man. Sam, the iconic head of the retail concern, mentored all of us whether we liked it or not. His mentoring left an indelible impression with me that I will carry with me for life. It was great to know you. Now you can continue that argument you were having with Sid.
RIP

Condolences to all the family, including Janet's daughter Judy and her son Travis. Along with his predeceased partner he was a good neighbour and friend, so kind to me when I was alone, inviting me for drinks and Christmas dinner etc. I will miss you, Sam.

Do I fondly remember Sam Sniderman? You bet I do. 714 College St. was a must if you were buying a (78) record in the '50s. I remember vividly the booths where we could listen to them, before purchasing. Imagine! Right out of "Happy Days". Plus, he was always so patient with us kids.
A great guy. So, thanks for the memories, Sam and may God bless you always. A big fan, Rose Marie Scholes xo

I remember Sam and his son, Robert as members of The Fitness Institute in Willowdale. We played squash together. Sam gave me my first LP, the white album by "Chicago" (a/k/a CTA). The Yonge Street store was as iconic as Maple Leaf Gardens and I can here Petula Clark's song, "Downtown" resonating in my head. Yes, "the lights were much brighter there and you could forget all your troubles". It was truly an outing to visit that Toronto landmark.
Sam, and the Sniderman family, I am sure there is a record player waiting for you!!!! With sincere condolences, Rob McDonald

It was a a different time , a time that I will cherish forever working at the Flagship store on Barrington Street. I made great friends there and loved working in an industry that was at it's peak before it's sad downfall to what was a great time.. Gone are the days of rifling through lps and cds listening to great music. Sam brought that to generations of people with his love of music. You will be missed.
