To the loved ones of Sam Thomas -
It was with deep sadness that I read of the passing of a local institution, Sam Thomas, Marshall's own candy man.
The person who said "only the good die young" obviously never met this kind, multi-gifted man. Sam was a man with a big heart who shared his enormous treasure trove of talents with the entire community, endearing himself to generations of Marshallites during his lifetime.
Sam, the nicest of nice guys, will be missed by his large and loving family and his many, many friends.

Dear Thomas Family - As a member of the Marshall Chapter, Order of DeMolay in the 1960's, I fondly remember "Dad" Thomas as an excellent role model for the young men of DeMolay. May you find peace and comfort in God during this time of grief.

Dearest Family,
I am so incredibly sorry for our great loss of Mr. Sam the Candy Man. I have known Mr. Sam all my life as a member of Trinity. We worked together for many many years in the childrens chapel singing with the little children so they could have a church service too. He taught many children how to be acolytes, readers, and ushers and the absolute joy of singing praises to the Lord. He was a wonderful loving child of God. He put his students above all else. Take comfort in knowing he is in the arms of the Lord. That is one man that the Lord made only one of and broke the mold. He will be truly missed by everyone who ever knew him. You are all in my thoughts and prayers as you gather to send thanks to God above for Mr. Sam the one and only "Candy Man".

Dear Family,
Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers during this time of great loss. I had the privilege of working with Sam in Marshall Junior High School for more than two decades. During that time, I found Sam to be an outstanding reading teacher who always put the interest of his students first. Being an avid learner, he greeted every new experience with a positive attitude. Sam initiated a chess club for students in an after-school program that proved very successful and remains in place today.
Please know that other educators in Marshall Independent School District share in your great loss as well; however, we can take comfort in knowing that this gentle, talented man is entertaining loved ones in heaven,
With deepest sympathy,
