Samuel Brake Obituary
Sam was the beloved son of Anne Roberts and Perry Brake and the stepson of Diana Brake. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Ann Carmichael (Patrick), and his stepsister, Jeri Lynn Anderson (Robert), both of Gainesville, as well as his nieces Elizabeth, Evelina, Summer Lynn, and Anastasia.
A graduate of Santa Fe College, Gainesville, Florida, Sam earned a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Services in 2024. During his studies, he worked as an intern in the academic study hall and enjoyed traveling internationally with his college classmates. He had a passion for staying active-riding his bike around town, working out, and running. Despite his illness, Sam remained resilient and determined, often reassuring others with a simple "I'm fine."
Sam's legacy will live on through a planned memorial scholarship fund at Santa Fe College, reflecting his caring and generous spirit. He will be remembered as a kindhearted man and a powerful fighter who inspired all who knew him.

Sam will be interred at the Brake Family Cemetery in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Gainesville, Florida.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Sam. As a former student in my programming courses, Sam stood out for his kindness, gentle nature, and dedication to his studies. He consistently demonstrated both skill and perseverance, earning the respect of his classmates and instructors alike. Although it has been some time since we last spoke, I will always remember Sam for his warm presence and admirable character. He will be greatly missed, and my heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

I am heartbroken to say goodbye to Sam. He started as an Educational Aide in the ITE department, but over time, he became so much more-a dedicated student, a mentor to others, and a true friend to those fortunate enough to be in his inner circle. His determination and love for learning were unwavering, even as he faced a long and difficult battle with cancer. I had the privilege of visiting him at his home before he passed, a moment that I will always hold close to my heart. The world feels a little dimmer without him, and everyone who knew him will deeply feel his absence.
Rest in peace, Sam! You will be missed more than words can express.

Sam!!! You were always fun to be around and one of the first people I ever committed to pray for to be healed. Though not the answer I wanted as far as location I celebrate your healing!!! I wipe tears from my eyes bc despite the years and distance between us you are my family!
Many prayers for your close family and friends who have tidal waves of grief that will crash at heights and frequencies I cannot imagine in the coming days and lifelong.
To Perry specifically- I know my mom (Jo Lynn - "Jody") welcomed him with hugs and her infectious smile! (3/20 will make three years since she got welcomed by nini and mother Ellen and others!) -- many hugs to you all! I will continue to pray for you!

The time we had with Sam was wonderful but not long enough. I have fond memories of Sam from basscamp and fire nights. He was always enthusiastic and filled with positive energy. I admire his indomitable spirit while fighting with cancer. His loss has left a big void in my heart which I hope will be replaced with happy memories one day. Sam wherever you are, you will always be in my heart.
