My sincere condolences to the Cundiff family. I was a customer since childhood. Mr. Cundiff was a wonderful man. He opened the pharmacy during one of the worst snow days ever to provide medicines for my six week old daughter. The state police met him at the pharmacy to transport the drugs to my family...I will always be grateful for his kindness!

To the Cundiff Family, Wallace will always be remembered in Vinton for all the hours he put into making Vinton a more special place to grow up and live.
The drug store will forever be in our memories as a gathering place for all of our friends. Wallace contributed greatly to our community. Long live his memory. May God bless all of you.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Wallace was such a great man, and a major part of our lives growing up in Vinton. He did so much for so many, and will always be remembered with great fondness.

Dear Cundiff family,
I have many memories of Cundiff's from growing up in Vinton. It was a treat to go in and sit at the counter and eat while waiting on my mom's prescriptions to be filled!! When the lunch counter was closed it was the end of an era. No more grilled cheese sandwiches and Cokes in the old glass bottles. :)
One of the many things that impresses me about Wallace was how he always remembered your name. When my mom would drop me off at the back door to run in and get her prescriptions for her, he would greet me coming down the hallway and immediately tell the cashier I was coming in for the rx for "Mr." or "Mrs." Sledd. He was one of a kind!
I lost my mother (Patricia Sledd)on 08/03/08- one year to the day that Wallace died. Then my father died on 12/23/08, so I definitely know how you feel at this time. Please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Wallace has been an icon in the Vinton Community. Our family will always remember visiting Cundiff's Drug through the years for our many needs. It was always nice to know Wallace as our personal pharmacist and that he knew and cared about us as well. It's nice to know that Sam carries on the tradition of personal service to the community. Wallace will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered.

To Sammy, Billy, and the rest of the Cundiff family. I am so sorry about Wallace. I cried when I heard because it was Wednesday at 12:30 and I could not make it to the Funeral or the Funeral Home. Please forgive me and know that I would have been there if I had known. Cundiff's has been such a big part of my life since I was a little girl and I remember when it was the place to hang out after school and get one of the best hamburgers that Vinton had. Wallace always had a smile on his face and you just knew he loved doing what he did. He will be missed daily by a lot of people. My thoughts are with you and I know that all of Vinton's will be as well. He was one of a kind and you all were lucky to have him in your life.

Words cannot express how sorry I am to hear this news. Both my mom (Tiny Campbell) and my grandmother (Lessie Maxey) worked at Cundiff's and I used to love to go in there and have a big plate of french fries after school and have Mr. Cundiff start teasing me. I don't get to come up as often as I'd like, however, the last time I was in Vinton I saw Mr. Cundiff in Kroger. He was just as sweet then as he was when I was a child. He will be missed by so many. Your family is in my thoughts and my prayers.

My heart will miss the sweet man who spent time with me at the Cancer Center while fighting his battle with cancer. We shared many conversations about his children, his business, and his determination. What always resonnated was this inner kindness that could not be denied and was simply magnificent. I will always treasure the "Lion" print he brought me on his last chemotherapy treatment. It was a pleasure being Mr. Cundiff's nurse and I am so glad I was able to recently visit with him.

Cundiff Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sadness. Your dear husband, father and grandfather has always been an icon in Vinton and so dear to many, many people. He was always a gentlemen and showed his love for the Town of Vinton and all of those who lived there. The thing to do after school each day was to walk to Cundiff's and have that fresh orangeade and enjoy sitting around the snack bar with all your friends. Wallace always made each of us feel special. May God comfort you at this time.

Sammy, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I have so many wonderful memories of your dad and the drugstore that they could fill a book. My mom and dad (Mary and Jim Freeman) always had such high regard for your father and your family. I always appreciated him asking about my mother after her many illnesses and now they are in Heaven together with my daddy rejoicing the glory that is God, the God they served and loved diligently. As truly sad as this is on earth, I can only dream of the praise party that is going on in Heaven right now!
