Samuel Richard Fowler 12/04/24 ~ 07/02/03  BOUNTIFUL- Samuel Richard Fowler, 78, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 of melanoma cancer at home surrounded by his loving family. Sam was born December 4, 1924 at his grandfather's home in Ogden, Utah to George N. and Alberta Coop Fowler. Sam attended Ogden Public Schools and Weber College. He served an LDS mission to Hawaii in 1946-48. Married Elenore Ehlert, April 8, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple Sam's working years were spent at Mountain Fuel Supply Co. for 33 years in clerical, supervisory, and business management positions. He was called as counselor in the Bishopric in Ogden in 1950. Served as counselor to three different bishops. Called as Bishop from 1958-1963. Has served on High Councils in Ogden and Bountiful. Has had many other teaching and leadership positions. Upon retirement he was called as a Temple Ordinance worker serving in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples for the past 15 years. He also served an 18 month mission as a Bishop to the Homeless at Welfare Square. Sam was appointed to the Bountiful City Council in 1994 and served two four-year terms Sam loved home and gardening. He spent many happy hours in his beloved mountain land and cabin with his children and grandchildren. Sam cherished working in the temple. He had a great love for classical music since his teenage years and was an avid symphony patron. Surviving is his wife Elenore, and children, Samuel Paul (Kris), Carole (Mike Ariotti), Barbara (Jesse Johnson), William Tracy, Douglas Matthew (Kendra). Also surviving are sisters, Norma (Guy Wilkins), Myra (Don Ripplinger); his 21 grandchildren whom he adored. Preceded in death by his parents and son, Richard Mark. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful 11th Ward Chapel, 115 E. Wicker Lane. Friends may call Monday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Tuesday morning from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
