I spoke of Dr. Hartman just the other day, my children were his patients when they were children. I always felt he was handling my children as though they were his children. He will be missed.

Dr Hartman was my summer MD growing up. My grandparents lived in Lebanon while I lived in Athens, GA. I fondly remember him and what a kind soul he was. He made an impact on a great number of souls.

Our children, whom Dr. Hartman called normally abnormal, were under his care from the early 60s when he was just a very young doctor. He saw them through critical illnesses from his small office on Chestnut Street and today all 4 are thriving because of him. Thank you, Dr. Hartman!

Cannot tell you how happy we were to have Dr. Sam take care of our kids. I know he saved our son's life and for that he has remained in our prayers and thoughts for a long time. Now our prayers go out to you. Be well.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Skip, JoAnn, Craig and families: I am sorry for your physical loss of “Uncle Sam” as I have come to know of his legacy through the Wertz family. Just last week, I watched a DVD of “Uncle Sam” leading a large group of happy children on search of the elephant tree and playing at his homestead. The Wertz’ shared what wonderful times they experienced through the graciousness of your father. By looking at the DVD, your father obviously has made a positive impact on many individuals that will carry through to future generations.

Condolences to the family of Dr. Samuel Hartman. He was the doctor to both my children from 1971 to 1992. As a young mother, all my faith and trust was given to this man and he cared for my children with great skill and care. His first priority was always his patients. My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family members.

Dr. Hartman will be greatly missed. He was my pediatrician when I was a child. He then took care of my babies as well. What a wonderful person he was and what a legacy he leaves.

Skip, Craig, Ann and families, I am so sorry, not only for your loss, but everyone who knew Uncle Sam. He was a very important part of the life of the Wertzs. I just viewed some great movies of happy times with Uncle Sam at the shore and along the Snitz. It was put together by Jeff and Sue Marshall and Ellen Saylor from movies of Aunt Hap's. I will miss Uncle Sam but am thankful he is now at peace. Sincerely, Chuck Wertz
