I still remember the time he drove me home after my appointment in my early 20's. What a guy, my grandfather was a doctor so I know an outstanding doctor when I see one and he was exceptional. RIP Dr. Jacobson.

I am honored to have known him. He worked tirelessly with my daughter Cali. He had us over for dinner with his family. His knowledge and kindness will never be forgotten.

So sorry to hear of Dr. Jacobson´s passing. My daughter has been a patient since 2000 and he was such a good, great, nice doctor - a wonderful man. Last time we were in Philly and we were done with our tests... Dr. Jacobson walked us down to our awaiting taxi and gave us hugs goodbye. I will always cherish that hug. Really - a remarkable man. He will be very missed. I hope his important research continues. Our thoughts are with his family - and I hope they realize how many lives this incredible man has touched....

I found out about Dr. Jacobson's passing last week. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jean and Maxine. I have been a patient of Dr. Jacobson's since 2004, and was a participant in one of his first gene therapy studies. Dr. Jacobson's kindness, quiet humor, and dedication to restoring vision will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.

Dr. Jacobson has been a gift of God to our family. Our daughter was one of 2 children that were part of the clinical trial for the gene therapy that halted her vision impairment and restored some vision in her eye. From age 7 to 16 we travelled annually to Pennsylvania to spend 3 days with Dr. Jacobson and his team. He was always so gracious, kind, supportive and accommodating. It was clear that he was dedicated to the work and ensuring that it was accessible to those that needed it. We remained in contact long after our daughter had completed the clinical trial. He was always interested in their accomplishments and how they were doing.

Our son, whom also has a retinal dystrophy, was the first in our province in Canada to receive the gene therapy under government funding 3 days ago. Our daughter was the second, receiving it in her untreated eye. Our plan was to share this great news with him after 3 years of advocacy to make it available. Here is part of his journey: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/adam-brown-luxturna-tiktok-advocate-1.6764510

We are forever grateful to Dr. Jacobson. We are saddened about recently hearing about his passing. We pray for his wife, daughter and brother during this difficult time. Please know that he will never be forgotten by our family and we are forever grateful for the sacrifices he made in time away from his family to ensure that my children received and maintained life giving sight. Their recent gene surgeries are dedicated to him. Thank you Dr. Jacobson!

I was a patient of Dr. J since 2009. Because of him I was able to regain some vision for five or six months. I am forever grateful to him for that. He became like a grandpa or uncle he was a kind compassionate soul and he was very respectful to my whole family. I sincerely think he was put on the Earth to help blind people. He didn't drive a fancy car or own a yacht he was a selfless kind loving compassionate soul. I know that if he would've lived to be 150 he would've still worked up until the end putting everybody else ahead of his own needs. He loved cracking jokes and making people laugh. I was honoured to have been invited out to his house for dinner a couple times, while I was at the clinic in Philadelphia. I live up in Canada so it was always nice to have a home cook meal while I was out there. My condolences to Jean and the family. RIP dr. J I'll never forget you

My son was a patient of Dr, Jacobson for over twenty years, from the time he was first diagnosed with choroderemia. I always enjoyed the drive from the District of Columbia suburbs to Philadelphia for my son to spend the day being examined by him. After all the eye tests, Dr. Jacobson would spent time well into the evening explaining the exam results and the prpognosis for the future. He would stay as long as necessary to answer our may questions and to provide advice and guidance. So many M.D./Ph.D. ophthalmologists we spoke to over the years said my son was being examined by the very best doctor in the field. He was revered by other patients and physicians. He will be sorely missed.

What a great loss. I went to high school with Sammy and remember him as a gentle, shy, caring and brilliant guy. His family and his patients were lucky to have him and I was lucky to have known him at Bowen HIgh School for four years.

I was a student in Psychology and collaborator with Sam at the Institute of Neurology in London in the early 70s. Over lunch in the cafeteria Sam asked me if I could train a cat to determine its visual acuity. I said no problem, and spent the next 2 years trying to prove it. We actually succeeded, and there are 2 papers to prove it. Sam was a good friend and a great physician. I am sad that I will not have an opportunity to get back in contact after 40 years.

I wish to extend my condolences to the family of Samuel G. Jacobson, MD, and particularly to his brother, Fruman, my life-long friend and neighbor.
Sam was one of the smartest kids ever to attend my grammar school and high school. I also remember his parents who were bigger than life figures and very distinguished people. The Jacobson family has always had a place in my heart--for at least 70 years.

My sincere condolences to Jean,Maxine and Fruman. Very sorry to hear of the passing of one of my closest of friends in High School. Sam and I spent many joyful hours in Band---playing clarinet together, studying (hard ), but fooling around (a lot) exploring the hidden sides of the school! While we went our separate ways after HS - I went off to Champagne at the U of I and then to Northwestern Medical school ,followed by a career in OB-GYN at Northwestern, our paths never crossed. Knowing Sam, I am not at all surprised at his bountiful accomplishments. My best to his family, I will miss him.

My ex-husband and I were friends of Samuel during his days at Rush and visited him in London. He was already an amazing ophthalmologist in those early days. He will be missed by so many.
