I meet Sam through the local magic clubs. I considered him a good friend and mentor. Sam always had something to teach me. A new trick, a move. He was one of a kind. Here is a true story. Last year my daughter sends me a text message with a picture attached. It is about 1am. She says "this guy is doing street magic I St. CHARLES by the restaurant bar area. He is really good. He saws he knows you and taught you magic."
I look at the picture and it's Sam.
Sam, thank you were everythino. You did what you loved until the end. I will never forget you. RIP. God bless you. Jack

I got to know Sam from his impromptu magic shows while with Ilene. What an entertainer and sweet, sweet man. No question he will be missed by many. God bless.

I own a salon in downtown st charles and I would see Sam walking To the bars on fri - sat nights dressed sharp and carrying a Dr bag. Always wondered who he was and what he did with that bag till one night I saw him at the Filling Station. I asked the waitress and she said that's Sam He does magic. He came over to our table and we were so entertained with his magic and his stories. That night Sam and I became good friends. He visited my salon often and I as he called it was his "hair dresser". I remember when he left one day he cried when he hugged me, I said Sam you ok? He said I'm lucky to have a friend like you, you don't charge me anything every time I come in and there ain't to many people left like you he said. I told him you served our country you already paid us and we are lucky to have you! He always gave me something but he didn't have to. I always asked him questions and loved hearing stories because someone like him is our history and a walking history book. I think he loved it too. We invited him to our 4th of July party and my whole family and friends fell in love with him. Last I saw him I videotaped our conversation he was a ham! He called me shortly after to tell me about his broken leg and I was supposed to visit him but my busy life I didn't get to and today I called him to see if I can stop by and found out he passed. I will miss you Sam the magic man, your stories, your smile, your charm and your magic. RIP Mr. Oddo

I knew Sam for more than 20 years. He was a fixture late in his life on the bar scene in St. Charles. When people found out that I was a magician, almost everyone from the area would ask if I knew Magic Sam. Oddly enough, I used to meet up with him at Sam's Warehouse Club in Batavia. We would tell stories and do various card tricks on the stacks of products. He was still very active and skilled in card handling even at 89!

Sam, you were always a shy decent man who was rightly proud of his service during World War Two. You were always eager to provide your magical experience to any journeymen magicians who requested it. I can only say that I will miss you and your ever present smile. May Almighty God hold you hold close to His heart for eternity.

I met Sam once at the Beehive bar in St. Charles in early spring 2016. He walked in dressed up complete with a sharp hat and holding a small doctors bag. I had him come to our table and he performed magic utilizing memorized deck (very impressive for anyone - let alone for a man of Sam's age). We had a good time watching and good conversation. Sam left a great impression on me and my wife.

I have been away from the Chicago area and Illinois for the last 11 years, but I will always treasure the fond memories of the previous 12 or 13 we were together in Society of American Magicians #148. Your laugh and smile, encouragement, advice, and magical performances delighted and uplifted my spirits on many occasions. You will be missed by many. -- May the Good Lord bless and keep you, Pastor Ken Morrison.
