Sam was a wonderful man, articulate, caring and patient. He had wide interests, a great sense of humor, and was a published author, Torn by War; The Civil War Journal of Mary Adeia Byers. He loved his family, who carry on.

Like Jeff, I just heard of Sam's passing today. He was a wonderful and caring human being. While we did not have a significant amount of interaction, all the interaction we had was worthwhile. He is remembered very fondly here.

I only today learned of Sam's passing and offer my condolences. I am a member of the IEEE-Consultants' Network of Silicon Valley, of which Sam was a longtime member. While sam was soft-spoken, he always had something to contribute to a technical discussion.

Sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,

Jeff Safire
