Our family is so saddened by such a wonderful cousin, person, family man and a beautiful Christian. When I was young I looked up at Sam Jr., as a good-looking guy who loved everyone and I felt great knowing he was family. There are so many memories that Sam has given us that we will cherish always. We will miss him so much. His personality and love were an inspiration to all of us. Sam we will always have you in our thoughts and will never forget your wonderful smile, that lit up a room. Our prayers and thoughts are with Pat and your wonderful family. Sam you are now joining the rest of our family members in God's beautiful heaven. I know you knew, you were loved by all and will forever be missed.

Love forever, your cousin, Helen Marie

With regrets I am just now finding out about Sam's death. I hate terribly that I was not aware of his illness and passing because he was the best boss I ever worked for at Eastman. There was always a smile on his face, and warmth in his heart. He was truly a special person and a special boss. Pat, I know you were a very special person to him and he loved you so much. I remember the days when you and Sam began dating. He was so excited. Please know you are in my prayers and I would like to call one day soon and visit with you about him. He's looking down now just a smiling...

Samuel Briggs Vaughn,Jr.
Sam Jr, my greatest cousin in all the world.I will miss you so terribly and the loving hugs and smiles you always had for us. One of my fondest memories of you when I was 4 or 5 years old was at "Grandmother Vaughn's home when she was taking care of me while "Mother Dear and Daddy" were working for Pan American. I was outside by the pond in the front yard playing and I saw a taxi pull up in front and you stepped out dressed in your "NAVY" uniform and I was yelling for "Grandmother Vaughn" to come out side "Sam Jr." was coming home. She came out as fast as she could and we started walking fast to meet you. We both had tears in our eyes to see you and you gave Grandmother the biggest hug and kisses. You then picked me up and swung me around saying girl your getting big. We all headed inside the house, sat down, ate,and had the best talks ever. I will never ever forget that as long as I live. We were so happy. You have always been special to me in my heart and my mind.My own children have had special memories they told me. So, good to see you and your Daughter "Wendy" kept us in stories at the "VAUGHN-GRIFFIS"Reunion in Leesburg, Florida. "Wendy" is such a charmer and so funny. This will be the highlight of my recent memories. The other was when "Pat, Sam,Jr.,and Bill Vaugh came to the "VAUGHN-GRIFFIS" Reunion in "AUBURN,ALABAMA when "MOTHER DEAR and AUNT ALLICE" were there among others. I wish at this time to send my " SYMPATHY and CONDOLENCES to "PAT, WENDY and all of the family. This is so sad but I know he doesn't hurt anymore and had that big smile on his face as he faced "GOD and all of the ANGELS" and passing through the "GOLDEN GATES" to seee all of the family and friends that were there to greet him." "PAT" you were and always will be his loving wife and soul mate no-matter where he is. He will protect each of you throught it all. I love eac and everyone of you, your all in my heart. Sam's friendship was treasured over the years since our 1944-45 shared Navy time together and subsequent Navy reunions, the last one sponsored two years ago in Longview by he and wife Pat. "Do not ask for whom the bell tolls", it tolls for many of us in the loss of such a good man. Glen Johnson
