Sandra DeLargy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 6, 2025.
Sandra Kay "Sandy" DeLargy, 71, of Beckley, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, in Huntington, West Virginia. She was born on September 23, 1953, in Stanaford, West Virginia, to the late Charles and Arlene Hollingsworth.

She attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV, and received her GED. On a spur-of-the-moment trip to Fort Myers to visit her sister Cathy, Sandy met the love of her life John DeLargy, and they were married within two weeks. Showing her devotion to her new husband, she embraced his Catholic faith, converted to Catholicism, and had their marriage validated and blessed at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Fort Myers on May 6, 1978.

Sandy and John were among the lucky few who found their soulmate early in life. From the moment they met in 1978, there was a spark-one that would burn bright for more than four decades. Theirs is a love story, like "The Notebook", that will echo through generations-a living example of what it means to choose each other every day, and to build a life together rooted in love, purpose, and partnership.

Together, they founded A-1 Septic in Southwest Florida, where Sandy earned respect and admiration for her fierce dedication to their business and her community. She fought the local governments for their business, finding the footing needed to become one of the most respected in the area's industry, earning her the affectionate nickname "Mouth of the South."

Sandy was an advocate for families, children and foster care. She and her husband took three young children in with foster care and officially adopted these youngest children in 2010. She was known for telling everyone that these three young children were the children of her heart. She chose them.

After her mother and father fell ill, Sandy and her husband John, sold their business, relocated to the area she was born, Beckley, WV, and retired to take care of her ailing parents, a testament to her deep devotion to family.

Sandy built a remarkable life grounded in love, faith, and hard work. She loved watching science fiction TV shows and movies. Her heart had a soft spot for dogs, so her four-legged pets were some of her favorite creatures to curl up and cuddle with. She loved to travel and was always up for an adventure with her loving husband by her side.

She leaves behind a legacy of love in her husband John, her children Melissa, John Jr. (Brittany), Michael (Alisa), Matthew (Betty), Gavin, Edward, and Grace; her grandchildren Kayla, James, John III, Olivia, Owen, Scarlet; and great-grandchildren Kynzley, Ben, Annabelle, Ali, and James T.

Sandy was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Arlene Hollingsworth, and brother Clayton Hollingsworth. She is survived by siblings Carol, Cathy (Charles), Donna (John), Arlene (Dave), John (Monika), Barbara (Mitch), James (Suzanne), Jennifer (Duane), and many extended family and friends who adored her.

Sandy's legacy is one of grit, grace, and fierce, boundless love. Her courage was loud, her love unconditional, and her heart, endless. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 10, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 09:00 PM at The DeLargy Compound, 211 Maple Road, Beckley, WV.

For those who cannot make it to West Virginia, we are planning to hold a small Memorial Service in Southwest Florida, the date of which is TBA.

Just can't get the Elton John tribute song out of my head to Princess Diana in 1997, Candle In Wind!

Sandy, your candle burned out long before your legend ever did! You have touched multitudes of cherished family and friends with your heart and kindness.

Much love and admiration!

A loving sister-in-law can make you feel cherished and supported through various acts of kindness and understanding. She might offer a listening ear during difficult times, celebrate your successes, or simply make you feel like you belong. These expressions of love and support can strengthen the bond between you, creating a sense of family and belonging. Sandy was all these things and more. She will be forever missed.
