Sandra Forrest Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 17, 2024.
Sandra (Sandy) Lee Forrest went to be with her Lord on March 31, 2024. She was born in San Juan, PR, at Ramey Air Force Base on May 12, 1954. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory F. Forrest, and mother, A. Christine Matlack. Sandy was the youngest daughter of Charles O. Matlack, Jr (Judy) of Waynesville, NC.

Her greatest joy was her family. She leaves daughter, Jennifer Baker (Kiel), and grandchildren, Baxley and Kyler of Columbia, SC; son, Davis R. Baxley (Jenny) of Lexington, SC; sister, Cynthia S. Matlack of Columbia, SC, and longtime friend, Joel Ohlsen of Davidson, NC.

She was a graduate of MUSC in Charleston, SC, where she served as the student body president of the College of Allied Health Sciences. Her degree allowed her to manage both medical and dental practices.

Sandy enjoyed cooking, travel, gardening, walking, hiking and watching her grandchildren enjoy their sports. She was honored as an Outstanding Young Woman of America for all of her community contributions. She received a Life Membership pin from Main St. United Methodist Church in Abbeville, SC, while serving various roles in church and civic organizations. Sandy previously owned a clothing boutique where she enjoyed organizing and participating in fashion shows. She was a model for hair, clothing and a golf how-to book.

She was known for her fun, loving and irreverent personality. She loved to laugh. In her latter years, she was known as a knowledgeable resource as she devoured medical research that she often shared with others. Her light shined on everyone who knew her.

The celebration of life will be held on April 28, 2024 at 2:00 PM, at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 35 Shannon Drive, Greenville, SC, 29615. Attendees are asked to wear some purple to stand in solidarity for those battling pancreatic cancer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sandy's honor to her cherished organizations: Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (https://pancan.org/ways-to-give/); ReGenerate Wellness Center (2084 Woodruff Rd Ste A, Greenville, SC 29607); and Hospice of the Upstate (https://hospiceoftheupstate.com/).

I am so sorry to hear that Sandy has left us but I know she is at peace, no pain or suffering as she looks eye to eye with Jesus.

Sandy, we have so many fun memories of Winyah High School in Georgetown. Then we both went to college in Charleston and made so many more fun times together. You were always a light to me, always happy, always smiling and beautiful!!! Even though life took us in two different directions we were able to re-connect by phone and text over the last 7 years. We have never skipped a beat in our relationship we just picked up where we left off. Thank you for being such a loving caring and fun friend for a lifetime!!!! I love you Sandy and I will see you in Heaven one day!!!!! Shirley McCrackin Pinner

Sandy and I were in Dental Assisting School together. We became friends right away. We were in each other´s weddings. We were supportive of each other through our lives of ups and downs. She was the best friend anyone could ever have! Always smiling and always laughing and always trying to make the best of a bad situation. I miss her so much! Look over us from heaven Sandy ! Lana

We will surely miss precious Sandy. Her obituary was so beautiful and so true. I loved the comment, "Way above Special." Such a beautiful person who showed us all what faith looks like. Certainly a life well lived. Love you Sandy. <>< Kathy Fortner Oliver
