Dearest Irving, Hilary and family,
As you know Sandy and I, although at first just cousins, became very good friends. We had great times together and I loved her dearly. To me she was forever beautiful, smart, and open to new ideas. It was quite courageous of her to travel to India, to an ashram with few comforts, yet a chance to experience something unique. It was she who introduced me to the writings and poetry of Abraham Isaac Kook, the Chief Rabbi of Palestine in the late 19th century. This particular poem is my favorite, so I´ve attached it here, along with a favorite photo of us on Shelter Island. In my heart I know that the great mystery of life, which she so desired to unravel, has now been revealed to her and she is resting in peace.
All my love,
Ronne

Dear Irv, Hilary, Richard and all the family,
For inexplicable reasons, Sandy and I connected soon after I married into the family in 1974. We would reach out to each other and communicate on many levels - practical, spiritual and philosophical. Our relationship always meant so much to me and I treasured the times we had together. Conversations went on for hours and we barely knew a moment had passed! I loved Sandy and love Irv, her children and grandchildren. I reveled in the love and devotion to them that Sandy shared with me. Sandy was not only intelligent, but had a deep, spiritual understanding of people, relationships - and our places in the universe.
I will miss Sandy deeply but carry her in my heart and memories.
Paul and I send our deepest condolences to all the family, Love, Shirley

Our deepest condolences to the Guberman family. One of my first encounters with both Sandy and Irv was how they greeted us to the Summer Club neighborhood with such enthusiasm. We wasted no time getting to know each other over cocktails and conversation at our place with our friends......they were both the life of the party! Honored to have spent some time together. Wishing your family love and support during this time.......Jennifer & Jamie Baum

It is difficult to add words that haven´t been said to the beautiful tributes we have read here. Sandy was, in so many ways, a force of nature. She was voracious in interests, doing things, growing, putting people together.
But she is the only person in my life who could stop me dead in my tracks and in a few words kindly wake me up to an opposite way of thinking!
Years of getting together in the city and much more of schmoozing on Fire Island... a lifetime of shared thoughts, meals, and love.

Ami is one of the most special people I have ever known in my entire life. She is always gleaming in positivity and she is a doer. She gets things done, tries new things, and is an absolute joy to be around. She is a lot, and a super dynamic personality, which has completely translated into the way I am. Spending so much time with Ami is one of the greatest privileges of my life and I´m so glad that she holds such a special place in my heart. To be able to have that relationship with someone is special. When I was 12, I saw a video that just said to go spend time as much time with your grandparents because you never know how much time you have with them. My entire life, I have always prioritized giving all of my grandparents my full energy, joy, and attention because they have only given me that and more. I have the best memories of Ami and truly can´t say a bad thing about her. Even when she seemed dismissive, dropped a "that´s interesting", or was put off by something, anything negative about her is so negligible because she´s a breath, shining beam, and heart full of positivity, laughter, fun, experiences, and a "people gatherer". There are some people in life who naturally bring others together despite circumstances. Ami is someone that everyone can unite behind because she represents family, love, and fun. She is beauty, she is special, she is my Ami.

Sandy was a fellow meditator. She was thoughtful, supportive and kind. Sandy found joy where she could - and gave joy wherever and whenever she could. My condolences to her family and friends whom she dearly loved and loved her.

While it has been devastating to say goodbye to Ami, the countless memories have helped me get through this moment, just a little bit easier. So many wonderful times with Sandy at Fire Island, which was one of her favorite places. She loved just about every sunset she saw out there and she always rallied us out to the deck to enjoy them right next to her. I smile when I picture her sitting on the couch out there, reading a book or listening to music or lounging at the beach - totally at peace.
The best memories for me though, involve our sons, Sammy and Max. She loved and supported them unconditionally and you can easily see the impact that relationship has made on both boys. They are kind and inquisitive and aren't afraid to love or be loved - a lot of that comes from Sandy.
The way she also loved Hilary is beyond words and we will miss her terribly.
I tear up (like right now) when I think that she's gone but I pivot into a smile when I think about all the moments we had with her. We were blessed by her presence.
Love you Ami, so very much.

Dear Hilary... I close my eyes and vividly see your Mom approaching gracefully down the beach, brightly smiling, radiating warmth, wit, and welcoming vibes. Impossible to separate thoughts of her without your Dad's presence by her side; in my heart it's always be "Sandy & Irv," your cool, kind, and sophisticated parents. Grateful to have known your amazing Mom and honor her life and legacy Hugs, ~ Nadia.

Hilary, your mom was a special soul. I feel blessed to have known her and to have spent so many years visiting the Guberman deck and hanging with both your mom and dad.
Seeing them both walking hand in hand down the beach so many summers late in the afternoon is a memory I will cherish. Sandy was a loved member of our intimate Fire Island community and she will be truly missed. Lots of love to your dad and all your boys.

Fire Island:
One rainy evening, we met Sandy and Irv at the Hideaway on FI. Sandy and Irv were drenched so they took off their clothes and wrapped themselves in towels to have a drink at the bar.

Sandy often came home from the beach, and in her bathing suit and prepared a delicious dinner with ease and a smile, while we listened to Madeleine Peyroux.

NYC:
Going to the theatre with Sandy was a happening. She would immediately speak with the manager asking for better seats, playing the seeing and hearing issues card. We usually got middle seats closer to the stage.

Mexico:
Sandy persuaded us to join her and Irv on her 70th birthday for a relationship workshop in Mexico. We had to walk on a narrow path with chickens and dogs to get to our inn.

These are just a few of many wonderful memories with Sandy and Irv.

Sandy had a welcoming, incandescent personality that lit up the room and drew people to her. And with her impish smiles and sparkling eyes she´d do things that many of us are reluctant to do. The examples are many, but the one that comes to mind was her asking waiters to let her taste multiple wines before making a decision and then deciding not to order any of them. I never saw a waiter do anything but smile and tell her that it was alright. She was, in the very best way, truly one of a kind!

She will be missed. My fire island summer club neighbors for over 25 years, you almost never saw one without the other; biking, walking or sitting at the shore together holding hands...such devotion. May her memory be for a blessing.

My sister Sandy was a gentle soul and a kind person.
Sandy was a true student of life - always interested in learning and understanding new things.
She loved her family deeply, and was always a gracious host, whether in Manhattan or her beloved Fire Island. She used to send me beautiful nature photographs of Fire Island.
Sandy taught me to read when I was five years old. And I told her how to get into Columbia to get her PhD. We always shared an intellectual commonality as well as many inside-joke laughs.
It was a gift to have Sandy as my older sister. I will always remember the good times and a life well lived.

Sandy was beautiful, smart, and a loving friend. She had the ability to share a thoughtful quote when we were in conversation. She had a sharp memory and knew how to enhance a subject by offering words of wisdom that she could call on.
She was a great hostess and made many dinners for friends which she whipped up effortlessly, in Fire Island.
We already miss her.

Sandy was so nice and welcoming to me whenever I visited the apartment or the home in beautiful fire island. I remember one time in particular in the mid 90´s and she was really sweet and encouraging and lifted my spirits. As years went by I didn´t see her too often, but She warmly welcomed Theresa and I and the boys to a Seder dinner which was lots of fun and of course great food! . My thoughts are with Irv ,Hillary and of course my good friend Rich at this difficult time and I hope the memories of having such a smart , funny , generous person in your lives for so long can provide some comfort.
