Sandra Kaye James Sanders Frisby Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 27, 2024.
Sandra Kaye Sanders Frisby was born to the late Harry James, Sr. and Lovie D. Miller James on March 10, 1951, in Marlin, Texas.

Sandra attended elementary school through 12th grade at George Washington Carver High School in Waco, Texas, graduating in 1969. She confessed her love for Christ at a young age while attending Second Missionary Baptist Church in Waco, Texas under the tutelage of Reverend M.L. Cooper, Jr.

She met and married Ernest Sanders in December 1970 and moved to Chicago, Illinois where she would spend the next 50+ years of her life. She then met and married Stephen Frisby in 1995, and they remained married until his death in 2004.

Sandra was a long-time member of Beth Eden Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois.

She was active in many ministries: Culinary, Matrons, Sisterhood, Mother's Board, Sanctuary Choir, Sunday School, Health League (Treasurer), and the Deaconess Board (Corresponding Secretary).

She was affectionately called Sweet Polly by her brothers and Aunt Kaye by her nieces, nephews, and great nephews.

Her love of movies, soap operas, and TV was unmatched. There was not a western movie or a TV show she did not enjoy watching. The Young and the Restless was her favorite soap opera. She had many favorite black and white movies and TV shows, but Perry Mason was her favorite. Her famous catch phrase while watching movies was, "Come on now Hollywood!" in response to something unbelievable that happened in the movie. When she watched the black and white TV show Wagon Train, she would say "Wagons Hooooo!" which was a catchphrase from the show and how she and her nephew, DeMarqus, would lovingly greet and say goodbye to each other whenever they spoke to or saw each other.

Sandra lovingly cared for children all of her life. She also grew up loving to swim and children would follow her to the community pool. She became affectionately known as The Pied Piper of the Neighborhood. She was a charismatic person who attracted followers, which was the story of her earthly life, and we are sure she's walking around heaven doing the same.

She loved visiting her family in Texas. While visiting, she would attend her favorite churches, Second Missionary Baptist Church in Waco, Texas under the charge of Pastor Dr. Nika Davis, and Como First Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, under the direction of Pastor Kenneth Jones, Jr.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Harry James, Sr. and Lovie D. Miller James, husbands Ernest Sanders and Stephen Frisby; her stepmother Martha James; and special friend Rochelle Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memory; her uncle, John Miller; her three brothers, Harry James Jr. (Wanda), Gary James, Sr. (Annie), and Michael James (Daphne); her stepchildren, Andrea Frisby and Peter Frisby; her nieces, Cassandra Sutton (Willie), Tamara Jacobs (Derrick), Kizzy Mayes (Vernard), and LaShanda James; her nephews, Harry DeMarqus James III (Paige) and Gary James, Jr.; her great-nephews, Karrden Jacobs and Avery James; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of loved ones, friends, and special friends Andrea Vernon-Cross and Bria Cross.

It saddens me to know she´s no longer here with us. We grew up together, attended same school and church. I´m so glad I had a chance to speak to her recently. Condolences to the James Family.
