Sandra Lawler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 10, 2023.
Sandra "Sandy" Lawler, 86, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Franklin, TN on September 6, 2023, with loved ones at her side. Born on October 21, 1936, in Haverhill, MA, Sandy was the beloved daughter of the late Alden B. George, M.D. and Maude L. George. She was the loving wife of Eugene E. Lawler Jr. for 56 years until Gene's passing in 2012. She was a cherished sister to Dianne G. Thornton of Naples, FL.

Sandy was a devoted mother and is survived by her loving children, Stephen Lawler and his wife Jeannine (Diquattro) of Walnut Creek, CA; Suzanne Varien and her husband Richard of Reno, NV; and Dianne Massoni and her husband Richard of Franklin, TN.

Sandy was a doting grandmother to Alex and Sam Lawler of Walnut Creek, CA; Lindsay Varien Firth and her husband Nick of Portland, OR; Brooke Varien of Portland, OR; Craig, Dominic and Patrick Massoni of Nashville, TN and Patrick's wife Chandler (Groves). She was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Ainsley Firth, and a great-grandson on the way, as well as beloved nieces and nephews.

Sandy and Gene met and married in Haverhill MA. Over their long marriage they also lived in Plaistow, NH; Morristown NJ; Walnut Creek CA; Holland, PA; Mountainside, NJ: Macungie, PA, and Dallas, TX. Upon retirement they moved back to the Bay Area to be closer to family, living in Martinez, Benicia and finally Brentwood CA.

In her free time, Sandy enjoyed a variety of hobbies. She was always crafting; whether it be working with miniatures, needlepoint, knitting or tole painting, she was always creating something special for someone she loved. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing mahjong and dominoes. She played golf for many years and enjoyed the social aspect as much as the sport itself. Sandy was also a talented cook, and family and friends enjoyed being the recipients of her culinary efforts. But anyone who knew Sandy knew that her greatest joy was spending time with her family; she always found ways to make each of her loved ones feel special.

Sandy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was an amazing woman with wit and sass. She was always thinking of others and had such a kind heart; she will be remembered fondly by those whose lives she touched.

Sandy will be laid to rest in Haverhill, MA alongside her husband Gene and her parents. The family will be holding a private memorial service to celebrate Sandy's life and honor her memory at a yet undetermined date. Memorial contributions can be made to AccentCare Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Nashville.
