Sandra Letha "Sandy, G.G." Martin, 79, passed away on September 20th, 2025, in
Kilgore, Texas, surrounded by those she loved. Born on October 2nd, 1945, in Memphis, Tennessee, Sandy lived a life rich with joy, compassion, and an enduring love for family and community.
A proud graduate of Warner Robins High School in 1963, Sandy began her professional journey with Southwestern Bell. In 1966, she married Gary Martin and embraced motherhood with the birth of their first daughter, Nicki, in 1971. Choosing to stay home during her children's early years, Sandy later welcomed her second daughter, Jana, in 1976. Her devotion to her daughters was evident through her tireless volunteer work supporting their activities and interests.
Sandy returned to the workforce with the Deer Park Independent School District where she made a lasting impact for almost two decades. Known for her dedication and reliability, she retired in 2000 after fifteen years of service that touched the lives of students and colleagues alike.
Retirement did not slow Sandy down-it simply gave her more time to give back. She continued volunteering by offering rides to those in need and providing companionship wherever it was needed most. Her generous spirit led her to work with Loving Kindness of Kingwood, Texas. In recognition of her heartfelt service, she was honored as Volunteer of the Year by KSBJ Christian radio station in 1999.
Sandy's zest for life carried her across the country as she sought out new adventures-especially polka festivals that matched her boundless energy and love for music. Her vibrant personality made every gathering brighter; she had an infectious laugh and a heart open to all.
She found great fulfillment in crafting and caring for farm animals-simple joys that reflected her nurturing nature. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and love; the smell of baked goods often filled the air as she prepared treats for those around her. She took special pride in her pumpkin bread-a treasured recipe she shared with Nicki, who continues baking it today as a tribute to Sandy's legacy.
Sandy's most cherished achievement was becoming a grandmother in 1997 with the birth of her first grandson, Braeden, and again in 2001 with the arrival of her second grandson, Holden. These two precious boys inspired her to lovingly call herself G. G. (Goofy Granny). Her affection for them was boundless; she created a nursery in her home filled with toys and books, and was a constant presence in their early lives. Throughout their journey, she remained an unwavering supporter, embracing their activities and interests with love and passion.
In later years, Sandy became an enthusiastic fan of the Houston Texans and Houston Rockets. She eagerly followed their games and cherished receiving team memorabilia from Jana to wear proudly on game days.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Wade and Letha Wilson; brothers Donald Wilson and Wayne Wilson; Gary Martin-the father of her daughters-and spouse Daniel Vacek.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Nicki Stubbs (and husband Don) of Atascocita, TX; Jana Pellerin-Martin (and wife DeAnna) of Baytown, TX. She was a devoted grandmother to grandsons Braeden Stubbs of Austin, TX and Holden Stubbs of Huntsville, TX; granddaughters Katie Moreno and family of Houston, TX; Kristen Cockrell and family of Pasadena, TX; Karlee Grounds and family of Friendswood, TX. Numerous nieces and nephews also carry forward memories filled with laughter and warmth thanks to Sandy's enduring presence in their lives.
A visitation will be held on October 11, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Deer Park chapel located at 438 E. 8th Street. A Celebration of Life will follow from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the same location. Sandy will be laid to rest at Byron City Cemetery in Byron, Georgia. A reception will follow the services.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America at

In keeping with her selfless spirit, Sandy made arrangements years ago to donate her body to UTHealth McGovern Medical School through its Donor Will Program-an act reflecting a lifelong commitment to helping others even beyond this life.
May Sandy's memory continue to inspire kindness, laughter, and adventure in all who knew her.
