Sandra Ohmstede Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 15, 2024.
Sandra E. Ohmstede went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at her home in Southlake, Texas.

Sandy was born on August 3, 1942 in Red Cloud, Nebraska to her parents, Lloyd and Bonnie Greenhalgh. She grew up on their family farm with her three siblings, surrounded by lots of relatives and friends. She graduated from Guide Rock High School, where she was a cheerleader and clarinet player in the school band. Growing up she was very active in her Methodist Church and the 4-H program, where she won many awards for her sewing, cooking, and leadership skills. Sandy attended The University of Nebraska at Kearney and took her first job in administration at the Webster County Hospital.

On December 26, 1962, she married Roger at the Guide Rock Methodist Church, and they were happily married for 61 years. While Roger followed his career and moved her and the family seven times throughout the United States, Sandy focused most of her time on raising their three children, Mike, Debbie, Steve.

Sandy ("Gamma") was a selfless mother who was so very proud of her children. She was also proud of her children's choices for spouses and loved them like they were her own. She treasured them and her six grandchildren and cherished every moment she got to spend with them. Gamma loved making the grandkids clothes, quilts, cookies, cinnamon rolls, photo books and anything else she thought they would enjoy. She organized family game nights and other events and was the rock for her family.

Throughout her life, Sandy was known as a friendly, caring person that loved helping others, and was an inspiration to so many. Sandy loved Whites Chapel Church, its pastors, bible studies and music. She helped with many of their ministries including writing thank you notes to soldiers overseas. She was always willing to help and be there when needed. Her faith and love guided her throughout her beautiful life. Sandy lived by the motto found inside one of her many journals, "Never forget favors done for you, but always forget favors you've done for others." Her acts of kindness and favors were endless.

Left to treasure her memory is her loving and devoted husband, Roger, who will miss her dearly, as well as their family members: son Michael and wife Sherri, Newnan, GA, daughter Debbie and husband Manny, Southlake, TX, son Steve and wife Kim, Colleyville, TX, and grandchildren Lauren, Newnan, GA, Christopher and wife Jo, Sharpsburg, GA, Josh, Colleyville, TX, Abby, Austin, TX, Maggie and husband Michael, Northlake, TX, Ben and wife Reid, Carrolton, TX, and great grandson, Colton Ohmstede, Newnan, Ga. Also, brother, Robert and wife Doreen, Fredericksburg, TX, sister Janet Moranville, Southlake, Tx, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Grace Chapel at White's Chapel Methodist Church, Southlake, Texas on Friday, February 23 at 10:00 A.M.

For those desiring, in lieu of flowers please consider donations in Sandy Ohmstede's memory to White's Chapel Methodist Church, Attn: Finance Department, 185 S. White Chapel Blvd. Southlake, Texas 76092. (The church requests all checks designate "Sandy's Memorial" in the memo section.)

My condolences to all of the family's that Sandy had in braced into her heart. What a shock to hear of her going to be with the Jesus, since I was texting her for many months. I will always miss her kind heart, her smile, her wit, and the kind words she always gave me over the years. It was a pleasure to see her and the all the cousins, at a small get together in Arizona. May you rest in peace and you will surely be missed in my heart.

We will miss Sandy for her kind soul and contagious smile. She was always willing to lend a hand while we lived together at Princeton Park subdivision. It was great to get to know her through Pokeno and Supper Club. She was the ultimate hostess. We even continued the friendship after we both moved and would meet for dinner. She would invite us to the club as well, we never got to reciprocate the hospitality. She is singing praises of joy with our Heavenly Father, may she rest in peace!! Love John and Rhonda Schock

My heart will always think of Sandy as warm and welcoming. She greeted me with a big smile and a hug. I remember her most from different reunions and family vacations to the farm! I will miss her initiating family e-mail letters to keep the relatives updated. She was a gift to everyone that knew her. I loved her servants heart, warm and funny personality.

Roger I grieve for you and the loss of Sandy. I can´t even imagine the heartache this is on you and your family! I pray Jesus will be with all of youJanice Armando (Northrup)

None better than Aunt Sandy! Always loving, kind, thoughtful and one of very few people who always sent a birthday card. She and Uncle Roger hosted me and some of my children recently on our Texas trips. Aunt Sandy had beds ready and sent us off with a gourmet breakfast. Christ demonstrated his love for us while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8), Aunt Sandy demonstrated her love every time you were with her.

Sandy was like a sister to me as we played together, growing up in Webster county, NE. She always wanted to be at home at bedtime. The first time she tried to spent the night with me, she couldn´t sleep and started sobbing. Her Uncle Frank drove her home about midnight.
One of the best, recent times together was at Deb´s Colorado home where Sandy invited cousin Marlos and I to spend several days together. We three shared our many memories of growing up together and recalled all the fun at the Greenhalgh reunions.
Sandy always made family a priority and facilitated the cousins email newsletter which helped us stay in touch with family.
Sandy was a faithful Christian and her life personified her beliefs. She always said Grandmother Coral Greenhalgh was her role model.

Sandy has been a friend since we met 50 years ago. My husband was an employee of Roger´s, but we were treated like friends and family. She even took care of our children many times after they were born. I loved and cherished her. What a wonderful woman!

Thinking of you all, and sending my heartfelt sympathy. One of my first memories of moving to Katy in high school was meeting Sandy at the school. She was so welcoming and made the introductions to Debbie that led to a lifelong friendship. She was a wonderful person and will be missed. Kathy Frueh Patterson
