In Loving Memory of Sandra C. Wegmann

Sandra C. Wegmann, a devoted mother, talented gardener, beloved friend, and cherished member of her community, passed away unexpectedly on June 4th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and beauty.

Born in Toronto, Canada, Sandra made a life-changing move to New York City in 1962. From there to Chicago in 1964 and then to Naperville in 1975. She embraced her new home while always honoring her Canadian roots. She was a proud member of the Chicago Canadian Women's Club, where she found joy in connection and camaraderie and built lifelong friendships and celebrated her heritage.

Sandra's passion for gardening was unmatched. Her dedication to cultivating beauty earned her numerous accolades, including several Garden of the Month awards in Naperville. Her gardens were a reflection of her spirit-full of life, warmth, and meticulous care. She took pride in teaching her children the same love of gardening and would help plant an annual vegetable garden at her daughter Kristen's home where in the fall, the entire family, would harvest and preserve all the delicious vegetables.

Beyond her love for nature, Sandra found immense joy in the kitchen. She loved to cook and bake, creating meals that brought comfort and happiness to her family and friends. Whether it was a perfectly baked pie or a home-cooked feast, she infused every dish with care and love.

Sandra's heart was also filled with love for her Pembroke Corgis. She had two: Fergie, who passed away in 2018 and Georgie who has found a new home with her daughter and son. Her faithful companions brought her immeasurable joy, filling her home with warmth and laughter. They were never far from her side, sharing in quiet moments and lively adventures alike.

Sandra was married to her beloved husband, Peter, for 42 years until his passing in 2004. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories. She is survived by her daughter Kristen (Mark Butler) of Rock Falls, and her son Kurt (Maggie Wegmann) of Oswego, two grand dogs, Molly and Daisy, who brought her endless happiness and she always found time to bake homemade treats for them.

Sandra embraced everything the outdoors had to offer. She found freedom and delight in driving her VW Beetle convertible, cruising well into the fall with the crisp air around her. The car wasn't just a mode of transportation-it was a source of pure joy, bringing a smile to her face with every ride.

Above all, Sandra was selfless, always putting others before herself. She poured her love into her family, and her children were the greatest joy of her life. She taught kindness through her actions and nurtured a home where love flourished. In addition, no one was a stranger long to Sandra. She was quick to make friends and valued the work to nurture and maintain those friendships.

Sandra's presence will be deeply missed, but the vibrant flowers she tended, her infectious laughter, the meals she lovingly prepared, and the warmth she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family invites you to her home for a Celebration of Life on June 29 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM to honor Sandra's legacy. She will be interred with her husband Peter in a private service at a later date.

I´m so sorry to hear of Sandra´s passing. I remember the first day I met her at recess in the school yard of St. Joseph´s School on 1948 . I had just moved to Toronto so I was new at school. I saw her playing skipping and I was taken with her gracefulness and expertise and her bubbling enthusiasm. She just stood out in the crowd in her smile and friendliness. She was one year behind me in school but we were always close. We´ve always exchanged birthday cards and kept in touch across the miles.
I always loved her Christmas letters and pictures . Please know I´m sharing your grief and sending my heartfelt condolences . Much love and hugs to all of you.
