Dr. Sanjay Datta

It was with great sadness that I heard of the passing of mentor and friend, Dr. Sanjay Datta. I served as a fellow under him at the Brigham, and we remained friends and professional colleagues for many years after that. He was brilliant, devoted to the field of Obstetric Anesthesiology, insightful, and gifted with a wry and witty sense of humor. My prayers go out to his loved ones.

It was with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Dr. Datta. I was thinking of him today so I Googled him and found this Obituary. It was especially sad for me since I just lost MY dad in August of 2019. Sanjay was a great human. I know him from working for him at Brigham & Women's Hospital. He gave me my first "real" job upon my graduation from college in 1985. I worked for him for 2 years conducting research in the Obstetric Anesthesia Research Department. He was great to work for. He had such a great sense of humor. He was always playing practical jokes and always seemed to have such a big smile on his face. I would always describe him as a "character" to my friends. He is the reason I have my name published in 2 research papers even though I was just a lowly Bachelor's Degree on a paper with all MDs. He thought I should get credit in the paper because I had done the bulk of the daily experimentation. I was so honored. I could always here him coming down the hallway yelling my name in greeting before I could even see him. "Migliozz" he would always call out, "how is it going today?". He always seemed to have such a zest for life. I also got the honor to meet his wife and young daughter as he had me and my wife to his home in Newton, on a couple of occasions, for dinner. He was not just a great practitioner and researcher, he was a great friend and human being. The world is a sadder place without him. Farewell my friend. You will not be forgotten.
