March 18, 2019
COLUMBUS, GA- Sara Elizabeth George, 82, of Columbus, GA passed away in the comfort of her home on March 18, 2019. Sara was born December 10, 1936 to Reverend Joseph and Flora James Crews in Mount Green GA.
Both services as well as visitation will take place on March 21, 2019, beginning with a private graveside service attended by family and extended family at Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus GA. A visitation at Evangel Temple in Columbus, GA will take place from 1:30-3:00pm, followed immediately by the Celebration of Life.
In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Robert F. George, and her eldest sister, Jean Welch (Rev. Robert). She is survived by her loving daughters, Angela Bacon (Bruce), of Fortson, GA, and Sandra Ivey (Steve), of Brentwood, TN; two sisters, Melba Schley and Wanda Kenney, and four brothers, Charles Crews, MAJ Joseph Crews, USA Retired, Chaplain (COL) Ron Crews, and Jay Crews; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Kennedy (David), Ellen Cobb (Greg), Simon, and Sidney Ivey; three great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her heart, Lucas, Lillian, and Logan Kennedy; many nieces and nephews.
Sara spent her childhood in Georgia and Florida, graduating from high school in Jacksonville, Florida. She married Robert F. George on August 14, 1954, and they had 59 blissful years together. They began their marriage in Columbus, GA, where she was employed by BlueCross BlueShield. Upon moving to Fresno, California and Dallas, Texas, she spent her time raising her daughters and volunteering. In 1970, the family returned to Columbus, where Sara was employed by the American Cancer Society and a local oral surgeon.
Sara was passionate about teaching and her thoughts daily centered around Christ and leading others to the Savior for whom she lived her life. In addition to leading and attending multiple Bible studies, Sara spent her time pouring into the community in various ministries, including 15 years of volunteering with Columbus Hospice, and 5+ years of volunteering with Mercy Med of Columbus. Sara, along with her late husband, Robert, devoted many years ministering to Chinese students in both China and America. For the last 4 years, Sara has called Spring Harbor her home. There she developed many new friendships as well as enriched existing friendships. Sara continued her ministry there by continuously visiting and praying with other residents. Sara was known throughout Spring Harbor for her radiant joy and thankful spirit. Because of her heart for others, many consider her their greatest mentor, best friend, and mother.
Sara will be remembered for her unwavering faith, devotion to her family, and love for her friends. Her daughters will be eternally grateful for the out pouring of love, support, and visits over the past several weeks.

The Cobb Family certainly are indebted to Robert and Sara, for their love, care and friendship since 1986, when my son and their future grandson-in-law (Greg Cobb married to our dear Ellen Bacon) was not even born yet! :) Through the years of visiting them when home on furlough from the mission field, their home was opened wide for us, bringing people together for us to share about China & Thailand! What we most appreciated about them most was their true friendship and LOVE for the Lord Jesus Christ! Our hat is off to Nana and Robert!! May their lives be used as examples of what Christianity is all about! Blessings always on the George family, from Alvin, Rhoda, Kendall & Zeeneta Cobb!

May God bring peace and comfort to family and friends. Sara was such an inspiration and influence to so many of us. From a personal perspective, I remember the many times she prayed for and with me and the words of wisdom from heaven she shared that were so edifying in my journey. I appreciate God using her, especially during the loss of my parents to minister to our family.

Her life will continue to inspire and influence, and we have been so fortunate to have been touched in uncountable ways through the Spirit of God working in her life.

Praying for all of you.

We love every memory of Sara. She made her world a better place, and the world would have been a better place had they known her as we all did. With heartfelt love, without a goodbye, we look forward to a Glad Reunion Day promised to those who put their trust in Jesus, as did our beloved Sara.

Kerry and I loved Sara so much. She was there for us during Kerry's parents Earl and Ramona Gibson journey to Jesus! Sara would bring cookies or just visit with Ramona who was an invalid for the last several years of her life. She also visited with my Mother Yoko Heather while she was on hospice care in our home . Sara was great woman of God and we will miss her so much.

I will always cherish our God given relationship. Our paths were not an accident, but a blessing. Our trips from London to Canada and everything in between were cherished. True friends can never be replaced so you and Robert will forever be in my heart. Ministers teach us how to live but you Sara, taught me how to die. Your example was a lesson for how we can face death. Thank you my friend. You told me to fear how I would die was being a disobedient child of God. You were a model Christian that we all hope to attain. You are in Gods hands, the safest place you could be. Til we meet again...

The world has lost a beautiful person and heaven has gained a more beautiful angel. She has left many beautiful memories for me and the Lummus days! I feel blessed to have known her.

May all her loving memories shared with each family member carry you through these sad times and know that she is with Robert once again.
