Sara Lynn Crewson was born on August 27, 1990 in Kokomo, Indiana, and died on May 20, 2023, in Carnegie, PA, from a subdural hematoma resulting from an accidental fall. She is survived by her father, William Scott Crewson, Stepmother Tracey Lynn Crewson, and her mother Teresa Barrett.

She attended Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania schools for seven years, but graduated from Morgantown High School, Morgantown, West Virginia, in 2008. She graduated from West Virginia University with honors and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa in 2012. Both her great-grandmother Ada Moon (1909) and great grandfather George Crewson (1910) also graduated from WVU. Sara also graduated from University of Pittsburgh College of Law in 2016 with a doctor of laws.

When she was young, Sara showed a talent for many different activities. She played the flute, competed on school swim teams, winning numerous medals. She played on the lacrosse team, and won a Pennsylvania state Bible verse contest. While still a teenager, Sara attended an Amnesty International Conference in Pittsburgh and spoke eloquently to the assembly about the death penalty. She and her father, representing the ACLU, traveled to Washington, DC, to lobby Congressman Tim Murphy regarding torture at Guantanamo Bay.

She studied Japanese language for many years and had hoped to visit Japan next year. She was a talented writer and skilled debater, and was always a passionate defender of her views and values. She will be mourned by her friends and family.

As per her wishes, she was cremated. A memorial service for close friends was held on June 7, 2023, at a site special to Sara near Morgantown, where some of her ashes were interred. Another memorial service open to all will be held at a later date, time and place to be announced. Rest in peace, Sara Lynn Crewson, you remain our beloved daughter and friend.
