Sara Maria Fonseca

Sara Maria Fonseca (Gonzalez Viejo) passed peacefully on Oct. 4, 2022 at the age of 92, surrounded by her five children.

Sara was born and raised in Ponferrada, Spain and came to the US in 1957 after marrying the love of her life Antonio Fonseca in Spain. She was a devoted, loving mother who taught her children and 15 grandchildren the love of travel, music, cooking, gardening and faith. Anyone who knew Sara remembers her for her ability to spread love, flourish a garden, and love art, music and opera. Sara was a leader for "Art Goes to School" program in Haddonfield, where she taught school-aged children to love art and history.

Sara is remembered as enriching the lives of anyone she touched as well as for her many sayings; if she could leave you with one message it would be to "Love one another, have faith and dance while you can".

Sara is survived by her brother Jose Luis Gonzalez Viejo (Pilar), her 5 children and 15 grandchildren; Sara Fonseca (Scott Ascoff), Anthony Fonseca (Sanya), Gregory Fonseca (Michelle), Rose Ann Clark (Ronald), and Maria Elena Fonseca. Grandchildren; James Currell, Amand Currell, and Alexandra Currell, Starr Fonseca, Ayden Fonseca, Sarenna Fonseca, Kyrah Fonseca, Allison Clark, Veronica Clark, Carolyn Clark, Edward Clark, Suzanne Clark, Johnny Stopher, Daniel Stopher and Michael Stopher and 1 great grandson Costa.

Sara was preceded in death by her loving husband Antonio Fonseca; father and mother, Ramon Gonzalez Toral and Sara Viejo Vaca; brothers Ramon Gonzalez Viejo and Goyo Gonzalez Viejo.

Viewing ceremony will be held on Saturday, at 10 a.m. at St Rose of Lima Church, 300 E. Kings Hwy., Haddon Heights, NJ, followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. The burial will take place immediately following at Locustwood Cemetery in Cherry Hill followed by a reception and celebration of life. The family recommends that you make donations to Grace Hospice, in lieu of sending flowers.
