Sarah Bowling Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 12, 2025.
Sarah Jane Cox Bowling, 76, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in Bluefield, Virginia. Born May 3, 1948, in Tazewell, Virginia, Sarah truly knew it was more blessed to give than to receive and generously donated her body to medical research. She was a retired teacher of 28 years, over 20 of those at Bluefield High. Sarah served in the ministry at Camp Laurel for 30 years and had a passion for serving the Lord in the church. As a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, her home was always a place for fellowship for the family and countless others who needed love and support.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents Crockett Bowen Cox and Juanita Mae Yost Cox.

Those left to cherish Sarah's memory are her husband Don; daughters Amy (Thomas) Horne, Valerie (Tony) Lugo, Mariette (David) Maldonado; grandchildren Arrin (Kevin) Brooks, Jordain (Paige) Carter, Joseph Maldonado; siblings Kaye (Donnie) Seay, Fred (Donna) Cox, Mary (Danny) Whitt, Everett (Asterie) Cox, Gayle Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Fincastle First Church of God in Bluefield, Virginia on February 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of Flowers, the family asks that you donate to your favorite ministry or charity in her memory.

Sarah was an exceptional woman who welcomed everyone she met into her life. She and Don must have made thousands upon thousands of cookies/bread to share with everyone. She will be missed

A place that will always remind me of Sarah is Camp Laurel. She always had a smile on her face. I will treasure all the time my daughter and I were there at Camp Laurel with her. We love you Sarah, and the family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

For several years our Christian Motorcyclist Association chapter would attend Camp Laurel's special needs camp. We would give the campers bike rides, fellowship with them and enjoy a delicious meal with them. As always Sarah would make this visit memorable. It broke our hearts when the camp closed. No one will know how many blessings are on Sarah's crown. She was one of a kind.

Sarah told me that we were cousins and that our lineage goes back to Gratton, Virginia. I am glad to have worked with and related to such a sweet, generous lady. My condolences to the family.

Mrs Bowling came to our home every week to teach our handicapped son Aaron who couldn“t attend high school because of seizures. She was so very kind, and re remained friends on Facebook. I know where Sarah is and she is rejoicing with the angels! She was truly a blessing to our family. Sandy Payne
