I was just reading the First Baptist Newsletter about Sarah and her work in the children's program there. She always had such a heart for children. When I return to First Baptist for holidays, there are not a lot of people left who really know me, but Sarah always stopped me to say hello. And quite often, when we spoke, we talked of the trip to Memphis when she (brave young woman!)took me and 2 of my teen friends took to a national girls' conference in the summer of 1975. That was a fun, wonderful trip and I have always been thankful that she was willing to take us.
She will definitely be missed by all those whose live she has touched.

It was a great pleasure to work with Sarah on the Indiana Association of Family & Consumer Sciences Executive Board. She was a wonderful treasurer for many years. Her leadership in INAFCS/AAFCS exceeded all expectations. She will be missed by our FACS family. My thoughts and prayers are with the Hawkins family.

I am certainly honored to have known Sarah for many years - long before either of us were married with children. She was and is a blessing to all that she encountered and will be sorely missed. However, the Lord has one of His best in His presence now, and I'm grateful that Sarah is now serving her Lord and at peace. May God comfort and bless the family at this time of loss as only He can do.

I worked with Sarah on the Indiana Association of Family and Consumer Science board for several years. Sarah impressed me with her quiet professionalism. She lived her live by example. If we could all be more like Sarah, this world would be a better place. I am blessed to have known her.

I've been a professional friend of Sarah's for many years. She was a wonderful role model for all of us--always friendly, kind, and helpful. My husband and I helped Sarah with a program for her work in Kids Hope a few years ago and realized how she extended her talents with so many. I will miss Sarah but will not forget her. Such a joy to know Sarah is now resting in God's hands. Thinking of the family at this time with the loss, but cherish the memories. I'm grateful I had the opportunity to work with Sarah through the Indiana Association of Family and Consumer Sciences as she tended to the financial records while I was president. A role model for many to follow.
God Bless you.

We will never forget how Sarah and her students helped our company (Doughmakers) in pursuit of our first patent. Without their help we would not have succeeded.
Sarah was a tremendous asset to ISU's F&CS for so many years. She showed a great dedication to the field she felt so passionate about and was a true inspiration to her students and many associates. After so many years in Indiana, she had not lost that wonderful Tennessee accent!
We mourn her passing, but celebrate as the Lord welcomes her home.

Dr. Hawkins was a great, caring teacher; I was lucky enough to have a nutrition class with her when majoring in Interior Design back in 2000-01. She always took the time to make comments on papers, & to answer questions. I've kept everything from that class! I am very sorry & surprised to hear she's gone; my condolences to her family.

I met and got to know Sarah during a summer class. I was so impressed with her compassion and concern for everyone in her class. Teachers are not always the easiest students. I often thought of our ALS Foods class and her smile and laugh. She was so bright. She was a great professor and will be missed.
