Schellenberg John

As I reflect back I had John as my first principal and I must say he was one of the finest human beings I have ever known !! When I arrived as a young teacher from Nova Scotia he took me under his wing and led me on the path to a 43 yr teaching career!! What a fabulous mentor he was!! I was blessed to always have John in my corner! He was the best and I will never forget his love and guidance! I Heaven did gain another angel !! He lives on in the hearts of everyone who knew him !´ I miss him so much !! Love to his family!!

What an amazing man he was, I was one of his students but he treated us like one of his own kids. He had an amazing heart, no one will ever forget you!

Mr. Schellenberg was my principal at Earnest Morrow in 1978. This soft spoken man made the transition to his school a lot easier for the smallest kid in grade nine. I will always remember him for that. God be with all of you.

When I was a student at EMJH, I had to be disciplined by Mr. S. But he did it in a way that was very respectful of my dignity. It was almost like he was asking me as a fellow human, to help him keep the school running smoothly. So I quit misbehaving and I respected him. He was a very deep guy.

Mr. Schellenberg was a Principal that every school needed.He will be fondly remembered in our hearts and memories.

John was a gifted, but ordinary superstar in education. His gift was the respect and pride he engendered in all who learned under, by and with him.

This sweet man was a very big part of my school years.. big influence in my life...

My thoughts & prayers are with you, your family & friends. I had the privilege of attending Ernest Morrow while he was principal. Mr. Schellenberg was such a giving man, guiding, nurturing & enriching our lives. My hope is that the legacy of his love, compassion, gentle spirit & devotion to family & God will help you through the grief of his loss.

He was my principal, my sister's principal and a wonderful understanding person. He will be missed by his family and remembered by all of his students over all the years.

Mr. Schellenberg was my Principal at Ernest Morrow. He was a man you could talk to about anything. He was also a great basketball coach, we won the championship! He will always be in our hearts.

Mr. Schellenberg was an amazing principle when I was at Ernest Morrow. He helped me through one of the worst times in my life when my older brother killed himself. I don't think my school years would have continued with out his kindness and guidance. This truly is a great loss of a wonderful man. My heartfelt condolences to the family on such a huge loss.

A very special caring man we where privileged to have at jack James school we all graduated in 1983 but he was with us for years before. Gave much direction and love when many of us needed it. You will never be forgotten Mr Schellenberg and thanks so much.

To all of the Schellenberg family. It was my great pleasure to come to know John while our children were at Menno Simons. My work with him through the Board of Directors gave me insight into a wise, gentle man that had the respect of so many. To his children and grandchildren, hold onto your memories because they must be so dear.

Our sincere condolences to Ina and the rest of the family. we always appreciated working with and meeting John in various church activities. He will be greatly missed. May the Lord bless and keep you as you remember his time with you.

Condolences to your family. Mr. Schellenberg was always one of my favorite teachers when I was a student at Branton Jr. High School in the late 60's. He is a very special person.

Sincere sympathy to a family who was blessed by one of the most insightful men in our Mennonite faith. John was ever a great inspiration and help to me when I was chair of the Tofield Mennonite church as well as Moderator of the Alberta conference. May his memories live on. Thank you John

Far and away the teacher that influenced my life more than any other. He was tough but always fair and taught through example the basic values in life. My best to the family from one who was taught life lessons way back in the late 1960's at Branton Junior High. He is a part of what I became.

Hands down the finest teacher I ever had. Fond memories from the mid-60's at Branton when he used to run our butts off playing flag football in phys-ed and at lunch...never did catch him! Mr. Schellenberg was a good educator and a good man.

Sincere condolences to John's larger group of family and friends. John left an amazing legacy and we all dive into our treasure chest of memories as we celebrate a true gentleman and scholar who has touched and enhanced so many lives. Heaven is that much more brighter now.

To the entire Schellenberg Family, I express my deepest condolences at the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. I have fond memories of him - dating back to the years we spent at Camp Valaqua. It's there that friendships formed with his children over the years. He will be missed by not only his family but his many friends and acquaintances.

May you feel the Lord's comforting and strong arms around you as you say, "Aufwiedersehn" - until you meet again in the presence of our Lord.

Thoughtful and balanced, accepting and non-judgmental, good-humoured, witty, and always interesting to be around -- that is how he struck me back in the early '80s when I was briefly 'the other John Schellenberg' at Foothills. We joked about how we should be distinguished; whether it would be big John and little John, or perhaps young John and old John. He was always the big John in every sense that mattered, and his special brand of generous wisdom will never grow old.
