I just opened a missed letter from my mother's mail from December and found out about Dr. Bortman. My Mother and I are so sad to hear about his passing. He was a hero to us and saved my mothers life about 10 years ago when she had an aneurism at age 73 that was about to burst on her Aorta. He was working as a surgeon in Boston at the time, and afterwards she has been in his care ever since. He was a very smart, kind and gentle man. Someone that you take an instant liking to and who we always look forward to seeing again.
Scott's family, friends, coworkers and staff are in our thoughts and prayers and we will always be very grateful for what he has done for us.
So Sorry,
Rachel and James Murphy

Dr. Bortman spent over an hour with my husband over face-time helping him figure out his heart condition this past October.

He made quite an impression on both of us and we were saddened to hear of this news.

We wanted this amazing Doctors family to know he was helping change lives for the better even during a pandemic and despite not being well himself.

So very sorry to his family for this tragic loss.

I was honored to work with Dr Bortman in the nuclear med. stress test area. He was always a joy as he enjoyed his job, and loved to teach. He truly loved people, and served them each day, even when his arthritis was limiting his abilities. He will certainly be missed.

Dr. Bortman literally saved my life. He's been my cardiologist for YEARS and he was also my favorite doctor, he truly was. I told everyone that and I am absolutely devastated and in shock. Rest in peace, Dr. Bortman. Oh, how I will miss you. What a great loss this is. Sending all of my love and prayers to his family and loved ones, may God bring you all comfort.

January 15, 2021

Long before I became a patient of Scott's, I provided services to Scott and his patients alike. We would have conversations that went beyond patient care. I enjoyed the time spent together when he himself would come into my place of business. When my own health was failing and I needed to find a Cardiologist for my own care, I did not have to look hard nor far, the choice was easy. I recieved top notch care and compassion, for which I am forever grateful. I will miss Scott, my Cardiologist and better than that my friend. May he rest in peace.

Dr. Bortman was my cardiac physician. He was personable and made me at ease every time I visited him. He had a great sense of humor. He always asked me about my granddaughter Jenna who attended Dana Hall with his daughter. That is the kind of person he was. Dr. Bortman placed three stents in my heart more than 15 years ago, with no further issues. I will miss the Man as well as the doctor. He was the best! I send my deepest condolences to his family.

Dr. Bortman was my first and only cardiologist I ever had. I only knew him for a short time but he made it seem like he knew me forever. He would always asked who is the blond that brings me to his office. Eternal peace to you.

I just learned of Dr. Bortman's passing today. He was my cardiologist for 15 years and was a joy to know. We met when he was doing my angiogram in Boston. I was supposed to stay over night, but when I told him I was in a school play for elementary students the next day, he got me an ambulance for the trip home, and I made it to the play. He was such a warm and caring person. Tragic he was taken so soon. I will miss him greatly.

He was my cardiologist for the last seven years.

I will miss having him as my Doctor.
May he rest in peace.

Scott Bortman was one of our favorite people in the Tufts Football family. We met him when his son Jeff played Jumbo football with our son Tom. Always full of fun and shenanigans, Scott was so friendly, engaging and had a superb sense of humor. He worked very hard (but on the DL) to raise funds to build a terrific "Brothers Room" at the football frat, complete with a huge TV, theater seating and pool table, which the boys absolutely loved. One of my fondest memories of Scott (and Kristen) was their very cool (and quite potent) Jumbo Juice dispenser. It was a work of art and they always had plenty for everyone at the tailgates. Our first experience with Scott's Jumbo Juice was after the 42-24 win vs Bates and there was no looking back! Love to all in the Bortman crew.

I was in absolute shock when I heard this morning about Dr. Bortman’s passing. I was due to see him in just three weeks. He was the most genuine and caring Doctor that I have ever had (and I have had many). Always felt so at ease with him and in every case where he felt that I needed some kind new procedure I was always calm and confident in his care. I just know that somehow he will be looking out for me as he always has. Rest in Piece

Scott was my cardiologist, fraternity brother, fellow Jumbo (Tufts University), football player and friend. He was considerably younger than I. When I first met Scott I needed his expertise as an interventional cardiologist. From that point on Scott was my sounding board for medical advice and help. I enjoyed talking with him and appreciated his wise counsel. Both Joan and I will miss him. His caring personality, sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye made him extra special. RIP Scott.

My sincerest condolences to his family. I worked with Scott at St.Elizabeth's. He was smart and genuinely interested in learning, listening & respecting both patients & staff. We enjoyed work-time, chatting about life & fun times as well. He was so gifted at putting patients at ease & also lightening the mood of a stressful time at work. He enjoyed his work & it showed.
It was a pleasure working, learning & laughing through many years of his time at the hospital.

Scott was my cardiologist and PCP for over 24 years, since his name was added in magic marker to the office door and, of course. I appreciated his medical expertise and advice. But more than that, he was my friend. I never felt like "the 2:15 on Friday afternoon". When he walked into the examining room, he made me feel like he had been waiting all day just to see me. He always took time to listen, explain, ask and answer questions. We talked about our families (he was so proud of Jeffrey and Rachel), Boston sports teams, my work, and later my volunteer activities. He cared about me as a person. When I was leaving, he would give me a copy of my blood work, with a sticker on it if it was good. Evidence of our shared sense of humor, I guess! He always sent me on my way with a big bear hug. Words can't say how much I will miss him. ((virtual hug, Scott)). RIP.

I first worked with Scott at St. E's during his residency and cardiology fellowship. We later worked together at BI. He was a fabulous, caring clinician and we always had a laugh even in tough situations. I will never forget that when a Boston team won a championship he would go to Dick's at midnight and buy tons of hats and t shirts and give them out to everyone the next day. He was full of and larger than life and will be missed. Love to his family.

I was a patient of Dr Bortman since he began his practice in Easton. I always found him to be compassionate and caring. I have a lot of fond memories of Scott during his internship/residency & cardiology fellowship at SEND. His quick Witt & humor, smile & genuine care of his patients made him one to never forget. Ex- colleague & friend Jane RN Seton 6 West.

Scott was a great doctor but he was a better person . A true gentleman. He will be missed by everyone.
