Scott Elwood Bruce

Scott Elwood Bruce, 62, of Bartlesville died Friday, April 18, 2014, at his home in Bartlesville.
Scott was born May 2, 1951, in Oberlin, Ohio, to George and Jean (Meyers) Bruce.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Bartlesville; children, Ben Bruce and his wife, Marcy, of Broken Arrow, and Charles Bruce and his wife, Rebekah, of Kearney, Nebraska; grandchildren, Riley, Keenan, Chloe, Grady, and Ezra; mother, Jean, of Wasilla, Alaska; brother, Steve, of Elyria, Ohio; and sister, Shelley Garey, and her husband, Norman, of Anchorage, Alaska.
Scott grew up in the cities of Lorain and Oberlin, Ohio. He received his high school diploma from Oberlin High School in 1969. Following his graduation, Scott attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa. Scott met the love of his life, Marilyn (Beese), at a church picnic while living in Ohio. They were married on September 23, 1972, in Elyria, Ohio. Scott and Marilyn began their married life together in Amherst, Ohio, during which time both of their sons were born.
Scott served in the National Guard and the Army Reserve, from which he retired after 20 years of service. As a young man, he worked as a telephone line repairman but also had a great interest in amateur photography. He sold several of his photographs to the local newspaper, which eventually led to a full-time job as a newspaper photographer. In 1980, Scott moved his family to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma because of the failing economy in northern Ohio. In 1990, they moved to Bartlesville for Scott to work with a company that did contract work for Phillips; and he eventually worked directly for Phillips. Scott later worked as a commercial driver for Crete Trucking Company after his son taught him to drive a semi truck. Though he was not a man of many hobbies, Scott did like to go fishing with his sons. When his sons started playing in Little League, Scott began umpiring and soon found that he thoroughly enjoyed it. He continued to umpire Little League games for many years.
Scott had a very strong work ethic and always endeavored to live honorably. As a young man, he trusted his life to Jesus Christ. In the last few years of his life, his faith became increasingly important to him; and he was eager to pass this on to his loved ones, particularly his grandchildren.
Scott was preceded in death by his father.
