Scott Cromar Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 29 to Apr. 30, 2012.
1987 ~ 2012
Scott Patrick Cromar passed away on April 27, 2012 from complications related to a difficult battle with drug addiction that he fought bravely with a positive attitude and always a smile. He had nine months sober due to the support of the recovery community in Salt Lake City.
Scott was born December 29, 1987 in Washington DC to Patrick F and Denise L. Cromar. Scott had an exciting childhood traveling all over the country, but loved Utah the most. He graduated from Park City High School in 2006. He had a mechanical gift which he enjoyed using. He always said that he would never be able to sit behind a desk all day-he had to be using his hands. He was an enthusiastic skier and dirt biker but more than anything, he was passionate about his family and friends. No one will ever forget Scott's sense of humor and fun loving spirit. Scott was well loved by his family and friends and he touched countless lives during his short life. To his many, many friends, remember Scott and know that he loved you all. We are overwhelmed by the love, prayers and support we have received and thank you all.
In addition to his parents, Scott leaves his grandmother Beverly Hackleman (Eugene Oregon), his Aunt and Uncle Leslie and Jeff Johnson (Anchorage Alaska), Aunt and Uncle Marie and Michael Cromar(Colorado), cousins, Michelle Stewart (Anchorage Alaska), Michael Cromar (Colorado) and Melissa Cromar (Colorado) in addition to many friend who grieve Scott's passing and have become part of our family.
A celebration of Scott's life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up in Scott's name at Zions Bank. All donations will be used to support the fight against addiction so that Scott can continue to play a role in this fight.

Dearest Pat and Denise,
Just opened your Christmas card with the unbelievable news of Scott's passing. I am devastated as undoubtedly Max and David will be when I share the news. Our family has so many fond memories of Scott. Especially the special times spent on the Island in Canada. I still have the Navy Seals sweat shirt he left. Wiley remembers all of the legos Scott gave him as a little boy! His affinity for watches! All of the bike rides he and Max went on! Water skiing, skinny dipping, house boating in L.O.W. We share so many many fond memories of our times together with Scott. Thank you for letting us be and share a part of his life. He was and is very special to us. We think and speak of you all every summer when we spend time on Breakaway. We will plant a tree this spring on the island in Scott's memory. We will never forget the good times and the happiness he brought to us all. I will never forget his beautiful smile! Much love and big hugs to both of you Pat and Denise you are in our thoughts and prayers.

We have no words to take away the pain you have felt and continue to feel Pat and Denise. We do know the world is a better place for Scott's brief time in it. His active involvement in recovery and your gift of openness about his struggles with this devastating and far-reaching disease are great gifts to the world. We love you Scott, and we love you Pat and Denise. Rest in peace handsome boy.

Denise and family, So may people who cared about your Scott were so devasted to hear of his passing. I am so sorry for your loss and can't begin to understand your pain. Addiction is such a terrible disease and is an unrecognized epidemic in our communities. I admire you for being so open about Scott's struggles in fighting this demon...hopefully it will make people more aware and understanding of this terrible disease and somehow help others to "fight the fight". Remember always that your Scott was loved and admired by so many. He impacted many lives in a very positive way. May your good memories of Scott bring you comfort.. our prayers are with you...

When I randomly read the obituary this morning of this young man, I felt touched to leave a message. I would just like to first say, how very sorry I am for your loss. I didn't know your loved one. I would also like to say that I feel you are making a huge difference in the lives of others when you mentioned he lost his life due to complications from his addiction. Often, when reading the obituaries, there is no cause of death mentioned, when it is a young person. I believe that your mention of it is a help to other's suffering with addictions. Maybe through your loss and pain it will prompt someone to get help, talk to someone, realize the severity of their problems, reach out to others. I want to thank you, because through your unselfishness, of sharing yourself this way, I believe you are touching lives, lives you don't even know you are reaching out to, randomly, and making a difference. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

Pat and Denise,

Cannot think of any words that will make you feel better, but please know that you are in our thoughts and are not alone.

April 30, 2012

My heart goes out to you and your family. I lost my 28 year old son to addiction on Christmas Day 2010. I commend you for addressing this issue. More people need to be aware, that it can happen to them. Just one more hit, could be your last. My son was an amazing, loveing and careing man, who grew up in a wonderful home. He tried with all his heart to stop. We are also on a crusade to get the word out. God bless you and your family. With Love,
