Scott Hitchcock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 22, 2012.
Scott Hitchcock
Williamston

Scott was born June 2, 1947 in Wheatfield Township, MI and passed away September 22, 2012 at the age of 65.
Scott is survived by his wife, Karen, of 37 years; son, Frank (Anna); and daughter, Sarah (Mark Hammond) Hitchcock. He was preceded in death by his dad, Lyman Hitchcock; nephew, Nick Hitchcock; and brother-in-law, Wayne Hull. Also surviving are his mother, Charlotte; brothers and sisters; Allen (Dorothy), Barry (Sharon), Steve (Birdie), Cheri Hull, Craig (Sharon), Cindy (Ed) Dunckel, and Mark (Mary); nephews, Jason, Travis, Rocky, and Sam, and niece, Heather Wedge; and extended family.
Scotty farmed all his life with his dad, Lyman; brothers, Craig and Mark; son, Frank; nephews, Nick, Jason, Travis, Rocky, and Sam. His passion was planting corn and combining. He loved driving around looking at crops with his wife, Karen, and his dog, Major. His hobbies were riding motorcycles with his son, family, and friends, mowing roadsides, and cutting trees down around his fields. Scotty enjoyed at the end of harvest and planting work, where friends and family would join together at the shop to shoot the s___! He was always figuring a way to "supe" up the tractors, trucks, and motorcycles to get more power out of them. He took pride in keeping the farm clean and well kept and the machinery waxed and in the barn. But most of all, Scotty was very proud of his family and friends and was always willing to help them, no matter what! A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Williamston Free Methodist Church, 4400 N. Williamston Rd., Williamston, with Rev. Douglas Bradshaw officiating, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 25 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Church. Interment will take place at Dennis Cemetery, Wheatfield Township, MI. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to McLaren – Greater Lansing, Greenlawn Campus, 401 W. Greenlawn, Lansing, MI (Cardiac Rehabilitation Center.) "I love you, Scotty" - Karen On line condolences may be made at www.grwilliamston.com

Mr. Hitchcock let my spouse and me ride in the cab of his big tractor with tank-like treads when he was plowing our field several years ago. He was very nice and we enjoyed meeting him. I was shocked to see his face on the front of the little Williamston newspaper, in an article about the accident. We are both very saddened by his untimely death and send virtual hugs to the family. Uncle Scotty, you are greatly missed! Memories of you will always be cherished and I will never forget the guidance you gave us your nieces and nephews. All I can think of is you looking down from the Heaven above still guiding us but now you're a guiding angel shining light down on us!

I'd walk right up to Heaven

Hichcock family,

Having moved from Williamston in 1980, I still have fond memories of growing up there. Living in town was good but going out to the farms was a passion. Your farm was where I would take my daughter to see the milking operation in the mornings. All of the Hitchcock family made me feel welcome. I remember Scott showing us around and yes he was proud of keeping a clean operation. I also remember the snow storm of 1978. Scott, and I think Mark, were out tearing around on their John Deere snowmobiles. I, at the time, worked for Keith Litchfield. Scott asked me, on a Sunday, to help find a throttle cable for his Liquifire. I pulled one out of stock and put it on for him. It was a good thing I had keys to the store because most all stores were closed. I had a small part in Scott's life. He and your family have giving nice memories in mine. I am sad to here of his passing, but glad to have known him.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Ellis and family

Karen and the entire Hitchcock clan, My thoughts are with you. Scotty had a great smile, and always a friendly word. I remember a long time ago I was out at the farm bringing my brother Paul some food before milking started, and Scotty and Craig had to save me from Oz the Bull (he was being cranky that day...snorting and pawing the ground). It scared the heck out of me! Scotty was always willing to show me around the farm. I'll never forget that. Or him. Our deepest sympathy for you all.

If immitation is the most sincere form of flattery, I guess that I could go back to the late 1970's when the "Hitchcock Boys" were driving those crew cab Ford PU trucks...Always wondered what was up with that, until I bought one...Many years with Judy and Keith Douglas working next door to "the Boys",and getting a big HIGH FIVE from them when passing in trucks or tractors made me feel I was a part of American Agriculture. Heard from Keith Douglas today of this terrible loss. I watched "the Boys" really "do the work" after the dairy buyout, and continue to excell in the career that they took on. Through good and bad, man, they sure did a bunch of work...and expanded into other areas of Ag Production. My thoughts are with all the families and relatives in this very difficult time.
