Scott Leddy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 13, 2024.
Our great friend and colleague, Scott Leddy, MD, passed away from natural causes peacefully in his sleep on July 23, 2024, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. None of the men in his family ever reached 60, and neither did he-59 and a half. He had recently purchased a new motorcycle and was enjoying riding it around Cabo.

Scott was a fantastic friend, an empathetic and dedicated physician, and instrumental in multiple healthcare systems. In 2006, he was pivotal in designing the Epic EM "notewriter," which remained almost entirely unchanged until 2022. In 2006, Leddy moved to Texas to join PhysAssist Scribes and Texas Health Resources as Chief Technology Officer. Later, Leddy became the CMIO at Wake Forest and Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth before retiring to Cabo in 2022. In that "retirement," he continued consulting on projects, including the launch of ScribeNest.

Born on March 15, 1965, in Edmonton, Canada, he completed medical school and residency in Calgary in 1992, later moving to Minneapolis to continue his career in emergency medicine. In 2001, Scott became the EHR Medical Director and later the CMIO at the Allina hospital system in Minnesota.

He is survived by his daughter, Skylar, of Fort Worth, and two sisters, Bonnie in Cabo and Patti in Edmonton. He thoroughly enjoyed every person he met, any and all animals, and especially his three "pups"!

A great man with an impact on countless lives in medicine and literally anyone who has touched an EMR keyboard, Scott had a voracious quest for knowledge and was truly an expert on countless subjects. In addition, Scott enjoyed many friendships that shared his love for sport motorcycles.

Scott, we thank you for everything! We were all fortunate to know you. We miss you.

A very casual celebration of life will take place on September 14, 2024, at 10 a.m. at River Legacy Park - Legacy Pavilion, Arlington, Texas. Bring a bike or hiking shoes to enjoy the adjacent trails as Scott would have desired.

I am so sad to hear of the loss of Scott. During our 3-4 years of working together as ED Colleagues in Minneapolis we became quite friendly. He was a kind soul and very interested in gadgets, technology and tools for the future. He purchased two Segways when they first came on the market and actually drove one to work a few times. Thanks for your friendship, Scott.

My husband and I worked with Scott in the ER at Abbott Northwestern. He was kind and funny, a great coworker. But we were lucky to be friends outside of work. We enjoyed Scott very much. We are truly sorry for your loss.

Today is Scott's birthday and he would have been 60. He often forgot his own birthday, and I always thought he was so busy doing good in the world that he forgot his own milestones. It is a shock that he has left so early. I will be forever changed by knowing him and will always remember our undergraduate days, that were completed by a four month trip to Europe and Kenya. May homemade Indian food and safaris sustain you my dear friend.

Most sincere condolences to Patti and Bonnie and the rest of his family and loved ones. I am very saddened to hear of his passing. He was taken too soon. We were neighbours of Scott´s when he was a young child. He was a very intelligent, curious and polite and always too happy to show his collection of bugs he caught and kept in a jar along with the blades of grass and a dandelion or two. I remember his beloved dog, Lady and Scott constantly knocking at our door asking if the Pon children could come out to play. My parents were very impressed with his impeccable manners. I always knew he would become a scientist or a physician because of his endless curiosity. RIP Scott. You will always be missed.

So sad to hear this!! He brought his three dogs to my dog facility for years while he traveled! He was such a sweet and kind man and loved his pups!! I´ll never forget the day he packed up his pups here at Doggie Diggs to move to Cabo! We were all so thrilled for him! I met his very sweet sister that lives in Cabo. Would love to get in touch with her if anyone could help me with that. He was a wonderful Dr. and person!!

I was sad to hear about Dr. Leddy. When we worked together, Scott was several levels above me in the organization, but he always took time to say hi, even though he was constantly on the move. He had goals to accomplish and mountains to move, but he would take time to make sure you were noticed. He was a pivotal part of some of the most influential moments of my life. RIP. Enjoy that highway in the sky.
