Scott McNeir Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 20, 2024.
Two Rivers - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Scott Michael McNeir, a dedicated and beloved retired schoolteacher, inspiring coach, and social worker, who passed away on May 15, 2024, at 67. Scott's life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to fostering positive change and nurturing young minds in Two Rivers, Manitowoc, and previously in Milwaukee and Racine, Wisconsin.

Born in Milwaukee on November 27, 1956, Scott was known from an early age for his infectious smile, sense of humor, and eagerness to help others. Scott attended James Madison High School on Milwaukee's north side. As a track team member, he gained success as a pole vaulter and also enjoyed other individual and intramural sports. After graduating in 1974, Scott earned a BA degree in social sciences from Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. He married and had two daughters soon thereafter. Scott began his professional career in Racine working in Child Protective Services, where his empathetic approach impacted countless children and families who found solace and support in his guidance. In 2002, he made a pivotal career shift after obtaining his teaching certificate, channeling his passion for education and mentoring into a role as a Teacher of the Emotionally / Behaviorally Challenged and as a track coach at L.B. Clarke Middle School in Two Rivers. His tenure was marked by his profound influence on his students inside and outside the classroom. Scott's innovative teaching methods and dedication to his students' personal growth earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues, students, and parents. As a coach, Scott's genuine care for his athletes' well-being and his belief in the power of teamwork and mutual respect extended beyond the track. He continued to help and mentor several of his students post-graduation, positively impacting their lives in his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed time with close friends, occasional travel, motorcycle rides, and rounds of golf. As an avid NASCAR and football fan for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the beloved Green Bay Packers, he collected sports memorabilia.

Scott's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his legacy is one of service, dedication, and unwavering support for the young lives he served. Scott is survived by his parents, Daryl and Carol McNeir; his brothers, Dana (Karen) McNeir and Kyle (Ellen) McNeir; and daughters Melissa (Nick) Helt, and Danielle (Luke) Kosterman, and his grandchildren Killian, Elaine, and Grayson Helt, and Cole and Zachery Kosterman. In addition, Scott is survived by and will be missed by nieces Bailey, Taylor, Lindsay and nephews Cory, Miles, and Connor McNeir. Scott's legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him and carry forward his mission of making a positive difference in the lives of others.

I am so terribly saddened by the loss of my good friend Scott. To only be able to hold him in memory is a huge loss. I first met Scott decades ago while working as a psychotherapist in Racine when he was working for the Racine County Human Services Department. We formed an instant friendship, sharing not only our related careers, but also a love of smooth jazz and of course the love of the Packers. Our contact was a bit spotty when he first relocated to Two Rivers, but picked up quite a bit when Covid hit. I was so glad to be in contact again, and am so terribly saddened by his unexpected loss. I will miss his smile, his dedication to his clients and students, and our shared political views. He will be missed by many, and has enriched many lives. He would be so excited about the political climate right now; I frequently think of how much we would enjoy talking about it, and really miss that possibility. Scott will always live on in my heart.
